A shocking video revealed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stepping out of an exclusive private jet during their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. Online commentators were incensed by the apparent hypocrisy and took to the comments to express their disgust.
For context, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a far-left congresswoman and member of the “Squad,” a group of radical Democratic politicians. She has become infamous for her hysterical takes on LGBTQAI+ issues, the climate, and immigration.
The video was posted to X on April 22, 2025, by prominent conservative voice Libs of TikTok. In her post, she said, “Watch as climate change champions AOC and Bernie Sanders step off a private jet. Never believe a word they say when they scold you about “cLiMaTe cHaNgE.'”
In the comments under her post, conservatives ponced on the hypocritical Democratic politicians. One commenter said, “That’s because they firmly believe that what they are doing is far more important than anything we as little commoners could possibly do. They don’t actually care about the environment, they care about themselves.”
Building on this point, another user drew attention to the dissonance between their personal actions and previous statements on the climate. A response read, “But don’t you understand that they are more important and better than regular people? They are so heroic for making the sacrifice to burn more fossil fuels just to get the message out! It would be ridiculous to use public transit as they go spread the message to the public!” Agreeing, another comment declared, “I don’t think they’re worried about climate change anymore… gulfstreams instead of EV’s and all.”
Continuing the comments, many users said that these politicians should be forced to answer for their hypocrisy. One such comment said, “Every single interview they give should start with the question, “’Did you come here on a private jet?” It doesn’t even matter what their answer is. Ask them and make them defend it. Then save all the answers for political ads in 2026 and 2028.”
In a hilarious joke, one user noted the irony of flying a private jet to an anti-oligarchy event. The response asked, “So… Bernie and AOC are rich people with a lot of political influence. There’s a word for someone like that. Is it… Oligarch??? 
.” A similar comment read, “In addition, they go against the oligarchy in a private plane for $15,000 a trip, very oligarchically. HYPOCRITES”

Rounding out the comments, many conservatives complained about the massive wealth shown off by these leftist politicians. One such comment said, “Bernie and AOC want to be billionaires so bad they can taste it. All they need to do is steal trillions from taxpayers to fund the billionaire lifestyle for themselves.” Another chimed in, “Behold the leaders of three Democrat Party: one’s a millionaire socialist who flies private and the other can’t budget a bar tab, but both want to micromanage your thermostat. The only thing they’re reducing is credibility—carbon’s still sky high.”
