Footage recently surfaced on social media, showing Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) exposing Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Gary Gensler over his alleged involvement with the Steele Dossier, also known as the Trump-Russia Dossier.  The report was a controversial piece of opposition research against Donald Trump that was essentially a compilation of unverified claims.

The clip shows Donalds in a congressional hearing, supposedly catching Gensler lying under oath when he claimed to have been unaware that the Clinton campaign orchestrated the payment for the Steele Dossier.  Donalds began, “Hey, real quick, last question. I think it might have came up. you were Hillary Clinton’s CFO in the campaign, right?” Gensler replied, “That’s part of my history.”

Requesting that Gensler be more direct in his answers, he said, “Were you yes or no?”  Gensler said, “In 2016.” Donalds further pressed Gensler, “Did you facilitate the payment for the Steele Dossier since you were CFO of the hillary Clinton campaign?”  “Sir,” the SEC chairman said, trying to explain himself before Donalds interjected, “Yes or no.”

Gensler continued, “That that was, that was not…” The Florida Republican reminded Gensler, “You’re under oath Chairman Gensler.” He finally answered, “I know…that was not something I was aware of.”  Getting what he was looking for, Donalds concluded his questioning, “I yield back the rest of my time. Thank you Mr. Chairman.”

The footage was shared to X by the popular conservative X account Wall Street Apes, during an exchange with Elon Musk.  Apes began, by sharing a clip of Vice President-elect JD Vance grilling Gensler before Congress.  “BREAKING: Head of the weaponized SEC Gary Gensler just threatened charges against Elon Musk within 48 hours Nothings changed. Here’s JD Vance calling out Gary Gensler for weaponizing the SEC against Democrats political enemies including Trump,” the post read.

Wall Stree Apes continued, “JD Vance threatens Gary Gensler “Maybe I can appeal to your sense of self interest. If you guys use the SEC in such a politically motivated way, eventually, you’re gonna be out of power….Gary Gensler was part of a corrupt Democrat dream team hired to target and bring fake investigations against Donald Trump JD Vance 2016, you were the CFO of Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign. Is that correct? Gary Gensler I was proud to be chief financial officer to the Clinton campaign.”

Musk commented under the post, “I bet he played a role in the “Steele Dossier” scam.”  Wall Street Apes replied to the owner of X, “Actually yes @elonmusk, Here is Congressman Byron Donalds in a Financial Committee hearing catching Gary Gensler in an UNDER OATH lie where he stated he was unaware that the Clinton campaign facilitated the payment for the Steele Dossier.  Donalds says he knows Gensler knew,” while sharing a clip of the Donalds interrogating Gensler.
