Since the last election, Former President Donald Trump has seen his support among diverse voters soar as minority communities flee the Democratic Party amid deteriorating conditions across the United States. Demonstrating Trump’s increasing support from non-white Americans, he hosted a massive rally in the Bronx last week, which drew thousands of supporters from the deep blue city.
MSNBC correspondent Dasha Burns was live on the scene, speaking to energetic supporters about their support for Trump. However, she was shut down by her interviewees when she addressed accusations of racism against the former president.
Burns recounted her experience on a recent MSNBC segment, detailing the responses she received at the rally. She illustrated that many of the attendees, who were immigrants themselves, agreed with Trump’s rhetoric toward immigration.
“Well, this might sound a little counterintuitive, but I did talk to folks in that crowd, who themselves were immigrants, a lot of folks from the Dominican Republic. A lot of people that I talked to were born and raised in the Bronx for some of them. This is was our first ever Trump event. And when you talk to immigrants that are going to these Trump rallies, they agree with his message on immigration,” she said.
She continued discussing the opinion toward immigration, stating, “Their point is look, I did it the right way. I came here illegally, and especially those living in New York right now, the sentiment I’ve heard from a lot of voters was, you know, we have these immigrants right now that the city is taking care of in a way that I’ve never felt taken care of by the city. It was a large crowd and a diverse crowd.”
The correspondent also touched on frustrations regarding other issues in the United States, such as the economy. Burns claimed Latino votes were “sick” of having to pay exorbitant prices for basic necessities, such as gas and groceries. She also suggested that some people found Biden’s stance toward minority voters to be offensive.
She added, “Oh, yes, there were some people from Westchester from New Jersey, but there are a lot of people there that were from the Bronx, black and Latino voters that are sick of how much they’re paying for gas and groceries that are frustrated with the situation at the border and that find President Biden’s rhetoric when it comes to minority voters a little bit offensive.” Watch the MSNBC segment below:
One Trump supporter told Burns that she was not concerned about Trump’s legal battles. “No not at all. I think he’s going to be elected the president because everyone still wants him as the president. So to me, it doesn’t matter.”
Another person slammed Biden, stating, “You have disrespected the people of the city in New York. This was the this was the best city in the world. We’re not the the great Apple anymore. We know the Big Apple we have a rotten apple.”
“Went on to Charlemagne to God show and said ‘You ain’t black’ if you don’t vote for him. I’m black because that’s how I was born and what I am and Trump and he’s gonna be the man that can save this country,” another individual stated, voicing his frustration with Biden’s infamous “you ain’t black” comment.
