Billionaire and former California governor hopeful, Stephen Cloobeck, who dropped out of the race in order to financially back Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-CA) gubernatorial campaign, has reportedly booted the disgraced congressman out of his mansion and is demanding Swalwell refund his million dollar donations after multiple women came forward and accused him of sexual assault and misconduct.
Previously, Cloobeck referred to Swalwell as his “little brother” in a March 2026 interview with Politico and “scoffed” when he was previously asked by the New York Post about rumors floating around about the California Democrat’s behavior toward female staffers. On April 12, Cloobeck revealed that he has changed his tune, stating he’s cut ties with Swalwell and the Democratic Party as a whole.
“I am no longer supporting Eric,” the Diamond Resorts founder went on to say. “F*cking tell everyone I’m a libertarian. F*ck you, Democrat Party. I’m a libertarian now.” The shift comes after Swalwell posted a video recorded in Cloobeck’s home in Beverly Hills defending himself against allegations of rape and sexual harassment made by former staff members and several other women involved in Democrat politics.
According to Breitbart News, after a report was published by CNN featuring four women who came forward to share their horrific experiences with the congressman, 50 former Swalwell staffers have called for him to resign from his position. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into the matter, as one of the alleged incidents took place in New York after he spoke at a gala event there.
House Democratic Leadership is also calling on Swalwell to drop out of the governor race, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), and House Minority Whip Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) putting out a joint statement addressing the accusations against their colleague.
“Following the incredibly disturbing sexual assault accusations against Congressman Eric Swalwell, we call for a swift investigation into these incidents and for the Congressman to immediately end his campaign to be California’s next Governor,” the lawmakers went on to write. Swalwell announced on April 12 that he would be suspending his campaign and issued an apology for his “mistakes in judgement.”
However, he continues to deny the allegations made against him. “I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s,” he wrote in a statement published on social media. Cloobeck launched a campaign for governor in California, but then dropped out to endorse Swalwell, investing a million dollars into his campaign and allowing him to stay at his luxurious 9,700 square foot mansion.

“I have a lot of people who stay at my house,” Cloobeck told the Post. “I built a gorgeous place, my dream home, I relish it, and I’m a very generous man. I’m very thoughtful and I’m very kind.” He later revealed he’s switching his party affiliation, saying, “I’m going to change my godd*mn party affiliation, because I cannot stand this Democratic Party at all. I am done. Finito.”
