Recently, Biden has had numerous public speaking engagements in which it appears he is visibly struggling to get through his speeches. During a Wednesday speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about economic investments, the president stumbled through a monologue about the alleged historic discriminatory activity related to highway construction and redlining.
During the speech, Biden addressed initiatives his administration is taking, such as a $3.3 billion investment in infrastructure and “environmental justice.” However, at various moments during the delivery of his message, Biden struggled to articulate his words in what seemed like a mentally strenuous experience for the president.
“Our interstate highway system laid out in the 50s was a groundbreaking connection to our nation’s coast to coast. That was the purpose of it. We’re transforming the way people live, work and travel. Instead of connecting communities that divided them, these highways actually tore them apart,” Biden said.
Biden continued discussing the purported problems created by the advent of the interstate highway system, illustrating that the infrastructure was built along redlined communities. “There are also cities all across America where highways used to be, uhhh, and they, uh, along, you know, redlining..,” Biden said, struggling to complete the sentence.
Biden continued illustrating the “historic wrongs,” while announcing the multi-billion dollar initiative that will fund hundreds of projects across dozens of states. “For generations, Black, Brown, and Native American, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian communities weren’t fully included in our democracy or our economy. Yet by pure courage, heart and grit, they never gave up. They pursued the full promise of America. Today, we’re recognizing that history to make new history. I’m here to announce the first of its kind investment 3.3 billion, $3.3 billion and 132 projects and 42 States going to help right historic wrongs,” he said.
As previously mentioned, there has been no shortage of public incidents recently that have drawn into question Biden’s physical and mental capacity ahead of the presidential election. The American Tribune reported on a recent incident where the president had to ask his staff if he was “allowed” to take questions from the press. Evidently, the president was not permitted to answer questions at the time, as the journalists were ordered to leave the room shortly after.
“I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Look, it stunned me, the write-in campaign you all did. No, it really did. I was very careful not to be here. But really, I was stunned, and I was really pleased,” Biden said speaking to a group of campaign volunteers at the New Hampshire Democratic headquarters. “Am I allowed to take any questions?” Biden said. “Anybody here a sta–”, appearing to call for his “staff.” He then trailed off as the crowd laughed awkwardly over the situation.
