During a press conference at the White House earlier this year, President Joe Biden faced a chaotic scene of disorderly reporters shouting questions at him. Unable to restore order to the press conference, Biden scanned the room before White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stepped in to rescue the president from the onslaught of incoherent shouting.
As the White House correspondents shouted over each other, KJP stammered, “Sir…sir…no, no, I didn’t call on you sir, I didn’t call on you.” Users on social media reacted to the chaotic scenes while raising concerns about President Biden. As the press conference occurred before the election, others voiced speculation that Biden was attempting to throw Vice President Kamala Harris under the bus as he constantly delivered damaging statements to her campaign.
Conservative commentator Collin Rugg shared a clip of the incident in October, posting on X, “White House briefing room descends into chaos as President Biden stands in front of shouting reporters, not knowing who to call on. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre jumped in to save Biden as reporters shouted at him, trying to ask questions. At one point during the briefing, Biden made sure to let reporters know that all his policies also belong to Kamala Harris, something Harris has been trying to distance herself from.”
As order was finally restored to the room, the president delivered remarks about Vice President Harris in which he highlighted the outsized role she supposedly played in the administration. Meanwhile, Harris e employed a strategy distancing herself from President Biden to avoid being looped in with the criticisms against the administration. However, Biden would seemingly negate this when highlighting her contribution to policies.
“There obviously been a number of crises been facing over the past several days with the hurricane. There have obviously been a number of crises that the country has been facing over the past several days with the hurricane, with the port strike, with the situation in the Middle East. Can you talk about how your vice president, who is running for the presidency, has worked on these crises, and what role she has played over the past several days?” a reporter asked Biden.
“Well, she’s, I’m in constant contact with her. She’s aware where we all were singing from the same song sheet. We she helped pass all the laws that are being employed now. She was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation, which we were told we could never pass, And so she’s been, and her staff is interlocked with mine, in terms of all the things we’re doing,” Biden answered.
One person on X commented, “Is this a veiled attempt to sabotage her campaign or at least her current narrative that she was just a passenger on the Biden bus?” Another user opined, “Why doesn’t he just throw her totally under the bus we know he’s mad. He didn’t quit for the love of his country. He quit because he was told you would be or will remove you.”
