During a speech on Tuesday, March 26, President Joe Biden addressed the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after it was struck by the Singapore-flagged Dali, a large cargo container vessel. In the speech, Biden addressed the rescue efforts for those who fell in the freezing water and assured the public that the incident was some sort of terror attack, claiming that it was instead just an accident. He also made a head-scratcher of a claim about his use of the bridge.
Beginning, Biden made clear from the start that the administration’s stance is that the tragic, deadly incident was an accident, not an attack, saying, “Before I leave for North Carolina, which I’m going to do in a few minutes, I want to speak briefly about the terrible incident and accident that happened in Baltimore this morning.”
Continuing, he made his head-scratcher of a claim, saying that he had transited the bridge many time by “train or by car.” He said, “At about 1:30, a container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which I’ve been over many, many times commuting from the state of Delaware either on a train or by car. I’ve been to Baltimore Harbor many times. And the bridge collapsed, sending several people and vehicles into the water — into the river.”
While he has likely transited it by car, it would have been impossible for him to transit the Francis Scott Key Bridge by train, as there were no train tracks on it. Conservative X personality Collin Rugg posted about that aspect of Biden’s speech on X. Rugg sarcastically said, “President Biden reveals that he took the train over the Francis Scott Key Bridge “many times” during his commute even though the bridge didn’t have train tracks. Very impressive! Biden, who appeared to be taking a train that didn’t need tracks to operate, said he remembers all the times he commuted on the bridge.”
Others chimed in as well. Radio host Alan Sanders, for example, said, “Ummm…what train tracks is he referencing? Because there are none on the Francis Scott Key bridge.” Similarly, X personality Ian Miles Cheong said, “Joe Biden has dementia. He claims to have taken the train multiple times over the Francis Scott Key bridge. One problem: the bridge doesn’t have any train tracks.”
Joining in the attacks on Biden stemming from the speech, Brick Suit, another X personality, said, “Biden claims to have taken the TRAIN over the Francis Scott Key bridge! Says he has been over the bridge “many many times commuting from the state of Delaware either by train or by car.” The bridge had only four lanes of traffic and no rail lines.”

Biden also pledged, during the speech, to help the state and local government handle responding to the emergency and with the effort to rebuild the port, saying, “I told them we’re going to send all the federal resources they need as we respond to this emergency, and I mean all the federal resources. And we’re going to rebuild that port together.”
Further, he said that the incident was not an attack or other “intentional act,” but rather a “terrible accident,” saying, “Everything so far indicates that this was a terrible accident. At this time, we have no other indication — no other reason to believe there was any intentional act here.”
