Throughout President Biden’s term, gaffes and public slip-ups have become common, drawing significant speculation from voters about whether the president, at 81, is fit to lead the United States. Biden demonstrated more of this concerning behavior at a recent press conference.
After delivering remarks at the White House on the border crisis, reporters began to hurl questions at the president. Footage shows Biden slowly scanning the room with a seemingly blank expression before shuffling away from the podium.
However, one question from the press appeared to grab Biden’s attention. One reporter shouted above the crowd, “Is Netanyahu playing politics with the war.” Biden paused, slowly turning toward the reporter, before muttering, “What was that.”
Following many of Biden’s press conferences and public engagements, conservatives pointed out signs that Biden’s mental and physical acuity could be on the decline. Independent reporter Nick Sortor wrote that it appears Biden was “lost again.”
The MAGA War Room shared the footage on X, claiming that it corroborates Special Counsel Robert Hur’s opinion, which expressed concerns about Biden’s age and memory. The account wrote, “Special Counsel Robert Hur was right. Joe Biden is unfit.”
“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory . . . It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him—by then a former president well into his eighties of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness,” Hur wrote after his investigation into Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Furthermore, the Wall Street Journal recently published an article addressing the Biden’s age and mental faculties titled, “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping.” The piece covered the opinions of both Republicans and Democrats on the issue. As expected, the left defends Biden as capable and fit to serve, suggesting the right is taking clips of the president out of context. However, Republicans maintain that Biden is performing poorly at his advanced age. Watch a clip from Biden’s recent press conference below:
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy cited his extensive experience interacting with Biden, opining that he is “not the same person” that he used to be. “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house,” Kevin McCarthy said during an interview. “He’s not the same person.”
Sen. James E. Risch added, “What you see on TV is what you get. These people who keep talking about what a dynamo he is behind closed doors—they need to get him out from behind closed doors, because I didn’t see it.”
However, the White House has vehemently denied the claims of Republicans, asserting that President Biden is a “savvy and effective leader” whose record of accomplishments speaks for itself. “Congressional Republicans, foreign leaders and nonpartisan national-security experts have made clear in their own words that President Biden is a savvy and effective leader who has a deep record of legislative accomplishment,” according to White House spokesman Andrew Bates. “Now, in 2024, House Republicans are making false claims as a political tactic that flatly contradict previous statements made by themselves and their colleagues.”
