President Biden recently made a significant gaffe when speaking about the American hostage who was recently found dead after being captured by Hamas. While speaking with the press on the White House lawn on Monday, Biden appeared to claim that he “spoke to” the deceased hostage, who was found in a Hamas tunnel by Israeli Defense Forces over the weekend.
As he approached the reporters, Biden said, “I’m heading to a national security meeting right now, and then going to Pittsburgh and so checking on what’s…following up on what’s happening in Israel.” The reporter then asked Biden, “Are you planning to present a final hostage deal for the both sides this week?” The president responded, “We’re very close to that.”
A reporter followed up, “Mr. President, if you think it’s time for Prime Minister Netanyahu to do more on this issue, do you think he’s doing enough?” Biden responded succinctly, “No.” Another reporter asked, “What is your reaction to the demonstrations across Israel? What is your reaction to the demonstrations?” Biden noted that he would need more details before answering that question.
Another press member asked, “Do you have a message for the hostage’s family, sir?” A total of six hostages were found dead in the Hamas tunnel, including the American citizen. Biden seemingly misspoke, claiming, “I’ve spoken to the American hostage. I spoke to his mom and dad and we’re not giving up, we’re going to continue to push as hard as we can.”
The popular conservative X account, Salty Texan, shared the clip of the incident, writing, “Put him back to pasture: Biden claims he ‘spoke to’ American hostage found dead in Hamas tunnel in latest apparent gaffe. Biden appeared to mistakenly claim on Monday that he “spoke to” the American hostage who was found dead in a Hamas tunnel over the weekend — adding to his string of uncomfortable gaffes in the last months of his presidency.
She added, “It happened after Biden, 81, was asked if he had a message for the families of six hostages who were discovered dead in a Hamas tunnel by the Israel Defense Forces on Saturday. One of the hostages was Israeli American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who had been held hostage for nearly 11 months since he was abducted from a music festival on Oct. 7.”

The American Tribune reported on another recent gaffe from President Biden when he appeared alongside Kamala Harris on the tarmac after a prisoner swap with Russia. Biden addressed discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he made a gaffe as he claimed the killing of a major Hamas terrorist hindered talks of a ceasefire. “Anyway, very concerned about it. I had a direct meeting with the Prime Minister today, very direct. We have the basis for a ceasefire. He should move on it, and they should move on it now.” A reporter asked “Is the chance for a ceasefire ruined after the assassination of Haniyeh.” Biden replied, “It has not helped.”
