Speaking in an absolutely wild interview with CBS News’s Robert Costa in CBS Sunday Morning for what was his first interview since dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and handing his support for the nomination to Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden said that he is “not confident at all” that there will be a peaceful transfer of power in America if former President Trump loses the 2024 election.
In a preview clip of the interview that was posted, President Biden, somewhat stumbling over his words first and then correcting himself and getting to his point, said that he is not confident that there will be a peaceful transfer of power if Trump loses in November. He said, “If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all. I mean if Trump loses I’m not confident at all.”
Continuing, President Biden misleadingly spoke about Trump’s comment that the American economy would face a bloodbath because of China if the Democrats win the election. Biden indicated that Trump meant there would be a a “societal” bloodbath, saying, “He means what he says. We don’t take him seriously. He means it. All this stuff about ‘if we lose, it’ll be a bloodbath.’”
For reference, Trump was quite obviously speaking about the economy with his “bloodbath” comment. He said, immediately before the comment, “China now is building a couple of massive plants where they’re going to build the cars in Mexico and think, they think, that they’re going to sell those cars into the United States with no tax at the border. Let me tell you something, to China, if you’re listening, President Xi — and you and I are friends, but he understands the way I deal — those big, monster car-manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now, and you think you’re going to get that, you’re going to not hire Americans, and you’re going to sell the cars to us?”
He continued, “No, we’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country, that’ll be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars, they’re building massive factories.”
In any case, Biden ignored all that to smear Trump by suggesting that he was predicting a civil fighting “bloodbath” if he loses the 2024 election. Then, building on that insistence that Trump would do anything other than admit defeat, rambling about GOP efforts to ensure the votes are counted correctly and suggesting that something nefarious is going on.
Doing so in quite muddled fashion, President Biden told Costa at the end of the short clip, “Look what they’re trying to do now. In the local election districts where people count the votes… they’re putting people in place in states where they’re gonna count the votes, right? You can’t love your country only when you win.”
