During an appearance before the House Judiciary Committee, the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro managed to take down Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, the one who had a relationship with Chinese spy Fang Fang, pushing back when Rep. Swalwell tried to attack him and the right generally by bringing up the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025.
As background, Project 2025 is a theoretical plan from the Heritage Foundation readied for a Trump victory in November. It includes both policies to pursue and who to hire, along with a related training program for potential administrative personnel to teach them how to manage the government. It has become a boogeyman of the left, as some of its policy proposals are farther to the right than the GOP has traditionally been.
In any case, Mr. Shapiro testified before the House Judiciary Committee on online censorship, particularly that of conservative content, including the Daily Wire. Part of what the hearing focused on was the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), which has allegedly been behind some of the censorship and strategized on how to carry it out.
Speaking about GARM and how it allegedly helps further the goal of anti-conservative censorship online during his opening statement, Shapiro said, “GARM purportedly sets ‘brand safety’ standards – objective standards by which advertisers and platforms can supposedly determine just what sort of content ought to be deemed ‘safe’ for advertising.”
Continuing, he elaborated on how the advertising angle of censorship allegedly works, saying, “In reality, GARM acts as a cartel. Its members account for 90 percent of ad spending in the United States — almost $1 trillion. In other words, if you’re not getting ad dollars from GARM members, it’s nearly impossible to run an ad-based business.”
Later on in the hearing, Rep. Swalwell tried to attack Shapiro and discredit the right by bringing up Project 2025. He said, “Mr. Shapiro, thank you for joining us today. I think it is important that you’re here as one of the leading conservative voices in the country. And the country in the last couple of weeks has talked about, googled Project 2025 … and you’re not going to get any censorship from me, so I just wanted to know from your perspective, I think it would help us understand, on just like a scale of 0-100 percent, how much do you support Project 2025?”
Shapiro, responding, ripped Rep. Swalwell apart with a funny comment about how the Democrats are trying to use Project 2025, saying, “I think like President Trump, I haven’t looked all that deeply at Project 2025. But it seems that Democrats on this committee [think that] — sort of like Peter Pan and Tinkerbell — if they say Project 2025 enough, their presidential candidate becomes alive again.” The crowd then laughed at Shapiro’s comment
Watch him here:
Trump, posting on Truth Social about Project 2025 and trying to distance himself from it, said, “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
