Speaking in an Instagram Live video stream posted the morning after the November 5 presidential election that Trump won handily, Rep. AOC (D-NY) didn’t just blame racism, sexism, and misogyny for Kamala’s defeat, though she certainly did that. She also had a total temper tantrum and made some absurd claims about what the new Trump administration will do.
Beginning, she said, “Hello everyone. Taking a minute or two to let you all hop on. Hey everybody. It’s Alexandria here, Alex. Hope y’all are hanging in there.” She added, “I would ask how you’re doing but I think a lot of us especially I kind of posted something similar to that question in my Q&A’s earlier and a lot of people are feeling very similar things.”
She then said, on the same note, that she wouldn’t “sugarcoat” anything, insinuating that the Trump presidency will be awful beyond belief, but that the left needs to start building “community” to resist Trump and “continue to fight” because they don’t “have a choice” in the matter.
She said, “I’m not here to sugarcoat what we all are about to collectively experience, but I think that what we can do to prepare is build community. We do not have a choice. We don’t have a choice. Our choice is to build. Our choice is to continue to fight. Our choice is to win. Our choice is to have each other.”
Rep. AOC went on to add, without evidence, that this is a new period of “fascism and authoritarianism,” saying, “We are about to enter a political period that will have consequences for the rest of our lives. We cannot give up. We now find ourselves in a time in history that has precedent, and we find ourselves, I believe, in a time where there are, let’s say, peers in history of mass movements of people that mobilize to protect one another in times of fascism and authoritarianism. And this is the era that we are poised to enter.”
Still not done with the unhinged claims about Trump, AOC said that Trump will turn the military on Americans. She said, “Donald Trump has talked about turning the military on U.S. citizens that he deems his domestic political enemies. Authoritarians and people that he affiliates closely with and strongmen abroad in regimes like that, it is not uncommon to jail political dissidents or legislative opponents. This is the world that we very realistically may be entering. And the way that we do everything that we can to prevent this is by building a very strong social fabric and social infrastructure.”
Funnily enough, in addition to making that unhinged claim that showed no real understanding of what would be possible in America, AOC said that it’s time to learn how “governance works,” saying. “A lot of people may not know how laws are passed or how governance works, and that’s okay, but it’s very important that we start to learn.”
She also said, complimenting her other comments about community building, “This is going to be a very, very, very, very challenging, difficult time. We can use the next several months to prepare as best as we can. Trump would be inaugurated around January 20th or so. And we can use this time to prepare as best as we can for what is going to be a very challenging and very difficult time for millions of people in this country.”
