In yet another example of Democrats going absolutely berserk over the idea that potential voters might have to present proof of identification to vote in elections, as they already have to present ID to do much less momentous things like get on a plane or buy cough syrup, longtime Democrat Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) went berserk over the SAVE Act.
As background, the SAVE Act is legislation pushed by President Trump and other Republicans that would, if passed, simply require photo identification, such as a driver’s license, to vote in elections. Democrats claim the bill is racist, or otherwise unacceptable, for unclear reasons. Polling shows nearly all Republicans and nearly three-quarters of Democrats support the measure, yet Democrat leadership has been implacably hostile to it.
Raskin lost it over the bill when he appeared on CNN’s “The Arena,” on Thursday, February 5, and claimed that the bill will make it difficult for women to vote, which is entirely untrue, and thus could and should be found unconstitutional because it violates the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
That came when CNN personality Kasie Hunt asked him, “Congressman, of course, the president’s allies say that this is all about the SAVE Act, which would require voter ID, although a fairly stringent form of it, ‘Voter ID is supported by the majority of Americans.’ But there are Democrats on the Hill and you voted against this? Why not support voter ID?”
Losing it in reply, Raskin angrily declared that federalism should apply here, which is absurd given the Democrats’ usual penchant for to-down demands. He said, “Well, look, first of all, this is not a problem that people are identifying or recognizing in the states. The states and local governments are perfectly capable of identifying when there are problems.
Then, getting to his claim about it being unconstitutional, Raskin declared, “This is obviously being cooked up by Donald Trump to justify his persistent, and utterly bogus claim that he won the 2020 election when Biden beat him by more than 7 million votes. But what’s wrong with the Save Act? What’s wrong with it is that it might violate the 19th Amendment, which gives women the right to vote, because you’ve got to show that all of your different IDs match.”
He concluded, “So if you’re a woman who’s gotten married and you’ve changed your name to your husband’s name, but your so now your current name is different from your name at birth. Now you’ve got to go ahead and document that you need an affidavit explaining why. And why would we go to all of these, troubles in order to keep people from voting when none of the states that are actually running the elections are telling us that there’s any problem.”

Watch him here:
Other Democrats have completely crashed out over the bill as well. For example, when the matter was broached on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe”, Senate Minority Leader Schumer immediately lost it, declaring, without a hint of irony despite the absurdity of his claims, “It’s Jim Crow 2.0, and I called it Jim Crow 2.0, and the right wing went nuts all over the Internet. That’s because they know it’s true. What they’re trying to do here is the same thing that was done in the South for decades to prevent people of color from voting.”
Continuing, and bringing up ridiculous examples, he said, “For instance, if you change — you’re a woman who got married and changed your last name, you won’t be able to show ID and you’ll be discriminated against. If you can’t find a birth certificate, or a proper ID, you’ll be discriminated against. This is vicious and nasty.”
