Longtime ABC13 news anchor Charly Edsitty announced that she is leaving the network after eight years of bringing the goings on of the local community into living rooms across Houston, noting that her future plans include moving to be closer to family. Edsitty, a weekend morning anchor, stated that she is leaving the station, referring to the move as a “very difficult decision” after eight “really wonderful years” in Houston.
Edsitty revealed that her last day on the air would be September 24, 2026. “I’ve been a ball of emotions recently because I have had SO MUCH FUN living and reporting in Southeast Texas,” Edsitty said in a post on social media. “But it’s time for me to get closer to home and to my family.” The anchor didn’t reveal exactly where she’s headed to next, saying she will share details when she is able to.
“I will miss so much about Houston, and that includes our amazing viewers as well as my dear news family,” she continued in the post. “I cannot fully put into words how transformative my time in Houston has been, both personally and professionally.” Keaton Fuchs, news director for ABC13, had previously confirmed that Edsitty would be leaving in an internal email to staff members that was obtained by media blogger Mike McGuff.
According to a report from Yahoo News, Edsitty referred to leaving the station as “bittersweet” and thanked all of her colleagues for the hard work, memories, and laughs they’ve shared over the years. She then credited her time with ABC13 as the main force that helped her become the journalist she is today and heaped praise on her colleagues for their dedication to the craft.
“It was a fun ride and I will always root for your continued success,” Edsitty added. She first joined ABC13 in 2018 as a multimedia journalist before later being promoted to weekend morning anchor in 2023. Edsitty, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, grew up in Glendale, Arizona. She graduated from Baylor University with a degree in print journalism.
Edsitty is also a member of the Native American Journalists Association. Her broadcast career got off the ground in 2013 with a position at KPNX, located in Phoenix, where she worked as a planning producer before working up to become an on-air reporter for 12 News Today. She then got a job as a bureau reporter in Flagstaff before going back to Phoenix and working as a general assignment reporter.
Edsitty’s exit isn’t the first big change to hit ABC13 this year. Sports anchor and reporter Mo Haider ended his time with the station in July 2026. Haider now works for KGW News out of Portland, Oregon, where he is a reporter. In June, longtime anchor Jeff Ehling announced he would be retiring this fall after four decades in the television news industry.

One of the comments on Edsitty’s post summarized the overall vibe of her followers, many of whom watched her broadcasts regularly. “Thanks for the memories and best of luck on your next chapter! Definitely a hard decision but family is first. I of the Navajo tribe and been in Houston for 26 years. I wish I could move back but I made a life here with my children. I do miss the Rez and my family, it’s hard to balance those too. I enjoyed watching you and just knowing anything is possible!” the user wrote on Facebook.
