WATCH: Actress Appears on CNN’s NYE Broadcast, Takes Opportunity to Roast CNN to CNN Hosts’ Faces

In a very funny moment on the New Year’s Eve Live 2025, CNN special broadcast, actress and comedian Whitney Cummings used the television platform provided by her appearance on the show to promote herself and took a very funny swipe at CNN and its horrible, quickly plummeting viewership numbers.

Whitney’s first joke came when, as she stood alongside CNN hosts and personalities Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper in New York City’s Times Square, she commented on her personal venues and joked that they are bigger than the audience that tunes in to watch CNN, a jibe at its horrible ratings numbers in the wake of Trump’s victory.

She said, claiming that she is playing “bigger and bigger venues now,” following the birth of her son in December 2023, “I thought being a mom would mean less people want to come see me. Now I’m playing like 3,000-seat theaters, which is about the viewership of CNN these days.” Akwardly, she then quickly added, “Not this show, though! All eyes are on this show.”

The comedian’s joke comes amidst ratings at CNN falling off a ledge as it struggles to find an audience in the wake of years of attacking Trump, a brief attempt at impartiality, and a return to furious assaults on Trump even as he was re-elected in a sweeping election. As the American Tribune reported of its recent troubles:

The embattled left-leaning news network reportedly averaged just 92,000 total day viewers in the 25-54-year-old demographic, which is highly sought after by advertisers.  Furthermore, the figure follows a precipitous decline in ratings in the wake of President-elect Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, where viewership in the key advertising demographic has fallen 52 percent to 77,000 viewers.

Additionally, CNN’s overall primetime viewership has seen a 45 percent decline annually to an average of 405,000 viewers, representing only 11 percent of the cable news market.  In contrast, Fox News Channel has continued to dominate the cable news market, capturing 72 percent of the total primetime audience, particularly in the key advertising demographic.

That wasn’t all. Cummings also commented on how bad of a year the Democrats had, noting that the president was so old and obviously falling apart on the campaign trail that the party had to spend more time dealing with him and making him look competent than in actually campaigning for the White House.

Making that joke about the elderly president and his issues, she said, “The 2024 election fried our brains. The Democrats couldn’t hold a primary because they were too busy holding a body upright.” Then, after cracking the joke, she asked, “Are we still rolling? Am I off?” Cohen told her, “Go for it,” meaning they were still rolling despite her jibes.

So, Cummings continued and took the opportunity to throw yet another jibe the way of the Democrats, saying, “It was amazing. The pro-choice party didn’t give their voters one when it came to the presidential candidate. Kamala [Harris] was forced on us so hard, you’d think she was patented by Pfizer—or Moderna… Oh God, Andy just gave me a very scary look.”
