In a very entertaining broadcast of ABC News’ “Good Morning America” program that came as December drew to a close, the show’s hosts had to admit that a recent report on gas prices had shown another major win for President Donald Trump, with gas prices crashing for five successive weeks to the lowest December gas prices in five years.
For reference, a report in GasBuddy, an industry publication, revealed that average gas prices in America had fallen to $2.75 a gallon as of the end of December. The ABC panel was forced to admit the good news for President Trump and for Americans traveling for the holidays.
Broaching the subject, guest host Malika Andrews asked, “Hey, how about some good news for those of us hitting the road for the holidays?” She continued, noting that prices have fallen, according to GasBuddy, for five weeks in a row, “Gas prices, they’re dropping nationwide, and this is for the fifth consecutive week.”
It was then ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Shulze who broke down the data, explaining what the report had found. Beginning, she said, “So this is really welcome news for the more than 100 million Americans hitting the roads during the holidays. GasBuddy says the national average price for a gallon of gas down for the fifth straight week.”
Continuing, she noted that gas is now under $3 across 80% of American states, and the average price is even cheaper than that, having fallen significantly in just one month. She said, “So it’s now $2.75. That’s down 23 cents in one month. In 40 states, average gas prices are now below that $3 mark.”
Adding to that, she explained why prices are somewhat lower than normal right now, saying, “Now, we do tend to see lower prices this time of year. That’s because generally demand does go down. People are parked during the holidays. School is out. Oil production is also up, which does help keep prices low.”
However, she also noted that right now is still unique because of just how low prices have gotten, saying, “GasBuddy says we could start to see prices tick up in about six weeks, but bottom line for now, cheapest December for gas prices in five years.” Watch her comment on the hugely positive news for Americans and Trump here:

President Trump, posting about gas prices in a Thanksgiving post on Truth Social, said, “2025 Thanksgiving dinner under Trump is 25% lower than 2024 Thanksgiving dinner under Biden, according to Walmart. My cost are lower than the Democrats on everything, especially oil and gas! So the Democrats “affordability” issue is DEAD! STOP LYING!!!”
Gas prices have long been a focus of his, as they are such a visceral and visible manifestation of the cost of living. Posting about the horribly high Biden gas prices, the president said, “Gasoline has just hit a 5 month high. Now that Biden has emptied the Strategic Oil Reserves, which should never have been done, here we go again…And so unnecessary. I had oil and gas at long term Record Lows – And NO INFLATION!”
