Taking action to protect people online and fight against child trafficking, child sexual abuse, and its monetization through child pornography, Elon Musk’s Twitter has finally taken severe action to stamp out child pornography on the platform.
Eliza Bleu, one of the foremost fighters against human trafficking, noted the changes that were quickly made under Elon to stamp out the horrific content, saying:
Wow! The most popular hashtag used to sell child sexual abuse material on Twitter is almost completely cleaned out.
I’m not going to post the hashtag for obvious reasons but if any organization, law enforcement or journalist wants me to send them the hashtag information I will. It’s public information but I don’t want to broadcast it because there are still 3 old tweets available.
Correction, the THREE biggest hashtags used by child abusers selling child sexual abuse material on Twitter have virtually been eliminated!
This is huge!
To those who aren’t aware yet, last week Twitter did add a direct reporting option for child sexual exploitation. (ONLY on tweets with content images/videos) this was not previously available and was a separate form that wasn’t easy to find.
I’m grateful to see these changes.
Update: I have spoken to a journalist whom I trust that reached out. This individual was brave enough to go and check out the situation including the hashtags.
The information will be released soon while being mindful of the safety for those impacted by this crime.
Later in the thread Eliza confirmed that Elon had liked one of her tweets, indicating it was accurate, and that she was working with journalists to fact-check her claims, saying:
Important to note, Elon Musk himself “liked” a tweet in this thread last night. If this information wasn’t valid, if it wasn’t factual, that wouldn’t have happened.
Update: A corporate media outlet has agreed to fact check my post. I am giving them as much information as possible to be as helpful as possible.
I am answering back requests in the order they have been received.
This change came shortly after Yoel Roth left his position as head of Trust and Safety at Twitter, with one account questioning why Yoel hadn’t stamped it out during his years at Twitter, saying:
Why was child pornography permitted on Twitter for years under your watch, but stamped out within 48 hrs after you left?
ZeroHedge, hinting at what might be the backstory with Yoel Roth not stamping out the horrid material during his time at Twitter, reported that:
Twitter’s former head of “Trust and Safety”, Yoel Roth, who wrote his PhD dissertation on the gay sex app Grindr, Inc. (GRND), in which he downplayed safety concerns about minors being exposed to sexual content online,
But whatever the reason for Yoel Roth’s apparent insouciance on the child sexual exploitation material, Elon appears to have taken a much tougher stance on it and cleaned out the filth rather than permitting its existence. Good for him!
