In a not particularly surprising recent incident and update, far-left actor and anti-Trump personality Rob Reiner has announced that he is checking himself into a place for mental health and relaxation, though what exactly sort of facility that was was unclear. The move comes after the woke personality quit X (formerly Twitter) in a huff in the wake of Kamala’s defeat.
Posting about the matter on Bluesky, the Twitter knockoff that has become an alternative to X for ornery leftists, and a place for rightists to troll them, Reiner said, “I have made the decision to take the next few days to check into a facility for peace and relaxation. No phones, social media, no trolls, just calmness to heal my pain.”
That came shortly after the woke actor freaked out about the Bluesky platform itself, declaring that the liberal social media alternative had been taken over by non-liberals. Reiner declared, on that point, “This platform is vile, racist and evil. It did not take long for MAGA scum to come spread their lies.” Moving to Bluesky after the election, Reiner had said, “I have decided to move here for a less hateful experience.”
PJ Media personality Matt Margolis, taking to X with a screenshot of Reiner’s Bluesky post, joked that Reiner’s headed to a “nuthouse,” or mental asylum, rather than leaving the country like Ellen DeGeneres. Margolis said, “After Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, some leftist celebrities are leaving the country. @RobReiner is checking into a nuthouse.”
Reiner freaked out after Trump won the presidential election, posting, “Now that America has elected a Convicted Felon with Authoritarian proclivities, I fear that Democracy’s return won’t be any time soon. The long term solutions are daunting. Democrats need to re adopt the 50 state strategy. And most importantly, a competitive information distribution system must be built to combat the massive disinformation currently being fed to the American people.”
Reiner wasn’t the only one to leave X. Joy Reid, doing so, said, “Hey guys, today I did something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. And the reason for doing it, and kissing goodbye to my 1.9 million followers over there. I hadn’t been posting for a long time – I just didn’t want to contribute content once it was purchased by its present owner.”
She added, commenting on the decision to leave the platform with the election being over, “But, just having it there – I was only holding onto it because, I, you know, really didn’t want someone trying to take over that name and use it for nefarious purposes. I was a little bit worried about that.”
Reid also said, “And also, every so often, I was just using it to look at news that was trending, what’s happening, and I just sort of used it as an aggregator. But I just realized it’s not really worth it. Because in order to do the news aggregation and just look at all, you have to wade through a lot of dreck and a lot of, just, abuse, and a lot of just, negativity. And it’s just not worth it.”
