Citing a recent DHS intelligence report, Breitbart dropped an explosive headline suggesting Venezuela was emptying its prisons and sending violent criminals to the U.S. border.
Though the DHS report tasked Border Patrol agents with identifying these potential criminal immigrants, it also noted that the execution of such a task would be nearly impossible.

A recent Department of Homeland Security intelligence report received by the Border Patrol instructs agents to look for Venezuelan inmates released from entering the U.S., according to a source within CBP. The report, reviewed by Breitbart Texas, indicates the Venezuelan government, under the leadership of Nicolás Maduro Moros, is purposely freeing inmates — including some convicted of murder, rape, and extortion.
The intelligence report warns agents the freed prisoners have been seen within migrant caravans traveling from Tapachula, Mexico toward the U.S.-Mexico border as recently as July. The source, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas the move is reminiscent of a similar action taken by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro during the Mariel boat lift in the 1980s.
Breitbart noted that under the Biden administration, Venezuelan immigrant patterns have increased by over 3,000 percent. In fiscal year 2020, less than 5,000 total Venezeulans were apprehended at the border; under Joe Biden, that number skyrocketed to 130,000 border encounters between October 2021 and July 2022.
Venezuelan immigrants have been in the news a lot lately. Last week, Florida governor Ron DeSantis flew two planes worth of Venezuelan illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyards, a self-described oasis for immigrants and refugees. Rather than find comfort and shelter, though, the wealthy, white, liberal, and pro-Biden island promptly deported all fifty Venezuelan nationals from their quaint setting and back to the American mainland.
The response to illegal immigrants arriving in many Democrat cities has been shockingly, albeit unsurprisingly, hypocritical. Leftist D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser has said her city is not equipped to deal with massive immigration like other communities. Likewise, New York loon Eric Adams shifted his messaging from being a welcoming sanctuary city to his city not being able to handle so many arrivals. It’s as if they talk a big game to win votes but not actually believe what they say.
And as mentioned by Breitbart, the move by Venezuela’s socialist dictator, Nicolas Maduro, is eerily reminiscent of Cuba’s socialist dictator, Fidel Castro, during the equally weak and stupid Jimmy Carter era. In 1980, Carter said he would lift existing sanctions and welcome Mariel refugees with open arms. Naturally, such a proclamation meant every disillusioned Cuban and dissident attempted to flee the miserable island and head for Florida.
And it also meant Castro would take advantage to screw over the United States. The History Channel noted that among the 125,000 documented asylum seekers, tens of thousands of them were criminals released intentionally into our nation.
Castro, taking advantage of Carter’s open-door policy, forcefully deported convicted criminals, mental hospital patients, LGTBQ people and prostitutes—people Castro crudely labeled as “escoria” (trash). In total, some 125,000 Cubans left the island during the Mariel Boatlift: up to 20,000 had criminal records and thousands had served time in mental institutions.
