An employee within the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently claimed that employees within the agency attempted to hide “incriminating” materials when Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) began investigating the organization. Since Trump stepped back into the Oval Office, DOGE has been tasked with downsizing the federal government and wasteful spending.
Musk had previously argued that USAID was “beyond repair,” arguing that the organization should be shut down, an assertion President Trump reportedly agreed with. As a result, the Tesla founder moved to seize USAID and shut it down. Reportedly, DOGE showed up at USAID offices in Washington, D.C., last week, demanding access.
One employee claimed to have witnessed the events as they were transpiring and explained the drastic measures employees took upon the DOGE employees showing up. “DOGE was in the building. We started — we took down our Pride flags, we took down- I took out any books I felt would be incriminating,” according to Kristina Drye, a USAID speechwriter.
She continued, “No one was talking. We heard they started taking transcripts automatically of all of our Google Meets.” Dye explained how she lost system access, stating, “They unplugged the news in the little kitchen galleys. It didn’t feel good. And then Saturday, all of the websites went down. And then I lost complete access to my computer.”
Musk has offered various criticisms toward USAID, claiming in one instance, “USAID was a viper’s nest of radical-left marxists who hate America.” The multi-billionaire said on social media, “USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die.” Highlighting how the organization needed to be scrapped Musk claimed it was a “ball of worms,” not even an apple with a worm in it.
“This is the one shot the American people have to defeat BUREAUcracy, rule of the bureaucrats, and restore DEMOcracy, rule of the people. We’re never going to get another chance like this. It’s now or never. Your support is crucial to the success of the revolution of the people,” Musk said in other remarks, stressing the need to reign in the federal government.
Musk also fielded criticism from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who blasted the Trump administration for governing the American people with an “un-elected secret group.” Musk responded, maintaining that DOGE was “dismantling the radical-left shadow government,” much to the dismay of Schumer and other Democrats.

Schumer said, “The American people will not stand for an un-elected secret group to run rampant through the executive branch. Being innovative is good, but Mr. Musk, this isn’t a tech startup. These are public institutions. That deal with Social Security and Medicare and national defense and provide for the well being of the American people.”’
Reacting to Schumer, Musk tweeted, “He’s mad that @DOGE is dismantling the radical-left shadow government in full view of the public. This is our ONE CHANCE to return POWER to the PEOPLE from an unelected BUREAUcracy back to DEMOcracy!! Only with the support of YOU can this succeed. Thank you, unknown soldiers.”
