After a recent interview with Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, NBC Host Kristin Welker has received substantial criticism for her hostile posture toward former President Donald Trump’s running mate. Throughout the interview, Welker attempted to fact-check Vance, but was met with the shrewd intellect and professionalism of the Ohio senator, who offered brilliant rebuttals.
In the months leading up to the election, Vance has continually been taking on hostile interviews from left-leaning mainstream media outlets, such as NBC and CNN. Despite the hard-hitting questions and attacks from the interviewers, Vance has garnered praise from conservatives for his ability to navigate the circumstances and communicate the Trump campaign’s agenda.
In the discussion with NBC, Welker tried to dismiss the validity of Vance’s statements in a manner similar to the incessant fact-checking that has occurred in the presidential and vice presidential debates from the moderators. Like the recent interview between CNN’s Jake Tapper and Vance, the conversation became heated and somewhat argumentative.
As a result, conservatives on social media have voiced their criticism of Welker’s journalism, where some have vowed not to watch the network because she handled the interview. “And for the 40th week in a row Kristen Welker got run over [by] some maga Republican in Meet the Press….This show is unwatchable anymore. Until they fire her, I refuse to watch ever again,” one person wrote.
One topic Welker pressed Vance on was the comment of Trump’s, which Vance maintained has been taken out of context, that the former president will pursue the “enemy within.” Democrats have interpreted this as a call to persecute Trump’s political opponents in the United States. However, Vance quickly set the record straight.
“What he said, and I do agree with this, what he said is that the biggest threat we have in our country, it’s not a foreign adversary, because we can handle these guys. We can handle foreign conflicts. We can’t handle look under Nancy Pelosi, his long life and public leadership, the United States has gone from the preeminent industrial power of the world to second, next to China, that fundamentally belongs on Nancy Pelosi shoulders. And if we’re going to have a more prosperous country, we’ve got to recognize our own leadership. Is why we lost our industrial base to China. Our own leadership is failing to lead this country into peace and prosperity. And of course, Kamala Harris, look what I look at the biggest threats to America,” he said.
He continued, “Kristen, I think the fact that people can afford groceries, the fact that our we can’t meet our recruitment goals in the military, the fact that Americans have a wide open southern border, that’s a way bigger threat than any foreign threat. And yes, it’s caused by broken leadership.” However, Welker tried to assert that inflation is subsiding, stating, “And yet, senators, you know, inflation is coming down.”
Vance immediately fired back,”It’s 25 percent higher than it was when Donald Trump the Oval Office….If Americans feel like inflation is a solved problem, then maybe they should vote for Kamala Harris. If you feel like the price of groceries, if you feel like the price of housing is too high, if you feel like inflation is not over, then Donald Trump is your man. ”
