Two Radical Democrats Rally to Defend Communist Cuba from Trump’s Pressure Campaign

In the latest round of absurd Democratic intransigence to President Trump’s big moves to enforce America’s will around the world, two Democratic representatives have decided that the sanctions on communist Cuba, sanctions that could be pushing it toward being amenable to doing away with communism, must be lifted because their are “illegal” and unfair.

Those two Democrats are Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Jonathan Jackson (D-IL), both of whom travelled to Cuba as part of a congressional delegation, and returned crying that the ongoing American economic restrictions and sanctions on the island, which have grown in importance due to Cuba losing its Venezuelan fuel lifeline, are “illegal”.

Particularly, the two Democrats, who were returning from a five-day trip to communist Cuba, returned saying that the “illegal” blockade on fuel entering the island is “effectively an economic bombing of the infrastructure of the country” that is creating a humanitarian crisis, and thus needs to be lifted.

Beginning their ridiculous statement, which was released on Easter Sunday, the two Democratic lawmakers insisted, “The illegal U.S. blockade of fuel to Cuba—90 miles south of the United States—adds to the longest embargo in world history and is causing untold suffering to the Cuban people.”

Continuing, they insisted that the blockade must stop because it is “cruel,” saying, “The United States prevented a single drop of oil from entering Cuba for over three months. This is cruel collective punishment—effectively an economic bombing of the infrastructure of the country—that has produced permanent damage. It must stop immediately.”

Still not done, they claimed it is Trump’s fault that the Cuban hospital system is a disaster, saying, “We witnessed firsthand premature babies in incubators, weighing just two pounds, who are at tremendous risk because their ventilators and incubators cannot function without electricity.”

They then added that it is also Trump’s fault that the Cuban school system is a disaster, before returning to blaming him for the horrid state of the communist hospital system. They said, “Children cannot attend school because there is no fuel for them or their teachers to travel. Cancer patients cannot receive lifesaving treatments because of lack of medications.”

Still not done, the two leftists insisted that Cuba’s failure to produce enough food, a frequent feature of communist regimes, is Trump’s fault. They said, “There is a water shortage because there is little electricity to pump water. Businesses have closed. Families cannot keep food refrigerated, and food production on the island has dropped to just 10 percent of the people’s needs.”

They added, demanding that America lift the pressure campaign just as it is starting to work well, “Across all sectors, there is agreement: this illegal blockade must end immediately. We do not believe that the majority of Americans would want this kind of cruelty and inhumanity to continue in our name.”

And, pointing to minor actions as a reason why we should give it up before it fully succeeds, they said, “While we were there, President Diaz-Canel released over 2,000 prisoners. The Cuban government has begun to liberalize its economy with significant reforms, including allowing Cuban American entrepreneurs to invest in private businesses in Cuba. Entrepreneurship has grown substantially, with small- and medium-sized private businesses now comprising large parts of the economy.”

Concluding, they demanded Trump collaborate with communist Cuba, saying, “The United States and Cuba must immediately enter into real negotiations that provide for the dignity and freedom of the Cuban people and the tremendous benefits to the American people that will accrue from a real collaboration between our two countries.”
