Two more actors have followed in the footsteps of Candace Cameron Bure and ditched the Hallmark Channel for Great American Media, which includes the Great American Family Channel and focuses on putting faith first in its storytelling. Bure famously left Hallmark for Great American Media when she decided that Hallmark was telling stories that conflicted with her Christian faith and view of marriage.
Those two actors are, Deadline reports, Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega. Together, they will appear in the new movie “Mr. Manhattan.” That film will be released on Great American Pure Flix, which is the streaming site division of the Great American Media company.
Great American Pure Flix posted about their joining it on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We’re so excited to announce that @TheCarlosPena and @alexavega will star in their first movie for Great American Pure Flix, ‘Mr. Manhattan’, premiering on May 24th!” Great American Family, similarly, tweeted, “❤️ Welcome to the #GreatAmericanMedia Family, @TheCarlosPena & @alexavega ! #MrManhattan @PureFlix”
Similarly, the actors, who are husband and wife in real life, promoted their move and new movie project on their social media accounts. Doing so, they shared a screenshot of the Deadline article on the matter and said, “We’re so excited to announce that @therealcarlospena and @vegaalexa will star in their first movie for Great American Pure Flix, ‘Mr. Manhattan’, premiering on May 24th!”
Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media, commenting on their jumping ship at Hallmark for Great American Media, said, “Carlos and Alexa are audience favorites and so beloved for their commitment to family on and off the screen, which is the foundation of Mr. Manhattan. And we are excited about a number of additional projects in development with these two enormously talented actors.”
Describing the film in which they will appear, Deadline reports:
In Mr. Manhattan, which begins streaming May 24, Mason Bradley (Carlos PenaVega) makes a promise to his brother and sister-in-law to be godfather to their newborn son (and future children). Mason has exciting news of his own: he’s just been accepted to Columbia Law School, which comes as a shock to his fiancé, Dani (Alexa PenaVega). Ten years on, Mason is surround by big city life and obsessed with becoming partner in his firm. He and Dani have broken up. Just when Mason feels personal success is at hand, he receives an unimaginable call. His brother and sister-in-law have tragically been killed in a car accident. Mason is now a single father with two children.
Candace Cameron Bure, decided why she left Hallmark for Great American Media when speaking to the Wall Street Journal after her move, said, “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.” Continuing, she explained that Hallmark was “a completely different network” than when she originally joined it, blaming that shift to the cultural left, one that conflicted, she thought, with her Christian faith, on a “change of leadership.”
