In the early morning hours of February 11, 2026, Pitt County deputies responded to a horrible home invasion in Greenville, North Carolina’s Cherry Oaks neighborhood, involving a slew of crimes like burglary, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree forcible s*x offense, assault with a deadly weapon, and inflicting serious injury.
While the male victim was hospitalized, the two suspects, identified as illegal immigrants, were arrested with the assistance of U.S. Marshals and Chapel Hill Police. The two men, 20-year-old homeless Jonathan David Garcia-Lario and 21-year-old Zaid Mayen, are facing four felony charges and are being held without bond.
In a public statement, the Pitt County Sheriff noted, “At 3:16 a.m. on February 11, 2026, Pitt County deputies responded to a reported assault at 200 Louis Street in the Cherry Oaks neighborhood of Greenville. Arriving deputies determined that the incident was a home invasion.”
“Both arrested suspects were discovered to be in the United States illegally,” the same source added, “The arrests were carried out with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, which helps track and apprehend fugitives. The Chapel Hill Police Department also took part in the operation.”
