President Trump’s official White House account on X got very funny when it saw and responded to a video of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) saying that she doesn’t fear deportation, posting a very funny and classic picture of President Trump working at McDonald’s as a candidate, waving her goodbye in a clear suggestion that she should leave the country.
As background, Rep. Omar is quite disliked by conservatives because of both her far-left political beliefs and her general tendency to side not with Americans and pro-American policies, but with her generally Somali Muslim constituents, who have objectives that generally conflict with those of Christian America. One such example is her downplaying of 9/11 by saying that “some people” did “a thing.”
Because of that, and the general tendency toward favoring far stronger immigration policies, many have alleged that Rep. Omar committed immigration fraud when she moved to America, and that she should, as such, be denaturalized and deported. Many have latched onto that and kept pushing for it, turning it into a relatively mainstream talking point.
This particular fight appears to have begun with President Trump, on November 1, taking to Truth Social to write “She should go back!” in response to comments that Rep. Omar made at a Somali community event, presumably in her Michigan district, in which she said, “Somalia is our home. It is our heart.”
Rep. Omar, responding to that call for her deportation and others like it, said, during an appearance on The Dean Obeidallah Show, “I have no worry. I don’t know how they take away my citizenship and like deport me.” Continuing, she added, “I don’t even know why that is such a scary threat. Like I’m not the 8-year-old who escaped war anymore. I’m grown. My kids are grown. Like I can go live wherever I want if I wanted to.”
It was to a video of that interview that the Trump White House responded with a funny picture of President Trump waving goodbye out of the drive-through window at McDonald’s, where he worked for a campaign event, in his characteristic French-cuffed shirt and red tie, with a McDonald’s apron on. Other Republicans have called for Rep. Omar to be deported as well. For example, Nancy Mace called out Rep. Omar in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, saying, “Ilhan Omar said it herself: actions have consequences. Time to live by it, @IlhanMN. We’ve filed a resolution to censure her and strip her committee assignments. If you celebrate murder, maybe Somalia can take you back.”
Responding, Rep. Omar quote-tweeted her and said, “I know you aren’t well or smart but I hope someone can explain to you that there isn’t a correlation between my committee assignments and deportation. Regardless of what you do with these committees, my office will continue to be next to you and I will continue to be in Congress.” Rep. Mace, responding to that, told her, “We would love to see you deported back to Somalia next.”
