Signaling his commitment to the war against sanctuary cities that his ICE-led deportation campaign requires in a powerful post on Truth Social that came shortly before the New York City election on Tuesday, November 4, President Donald Trump said that he would be cutting off federal funding to the city if the “communist” candidate, Zohran Mamdani, won.
As background, part of President Trump’s campaign to crack down on illegal immigration involves an attempt to “flood the zone” with ICE agents so that the illegal aliens in the sanctuary city are targeted by the federal officials and can be detained and deported before it is too late. As New York City is one of the most important American cities and a sanctuary city, it has faced large ICE operations.
So, in the runup to the NYC election, the president vowed that he would be sending as little federal money as possible to NYC if Zohran won, writing, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!”
Continuing, he noted that he does not want to pour taxpayer dollars down the drain of trying to fix a city that is run by, and being destroyed by, a communist. He said, “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad.”
Further slamming Mamdani’s far-left beliefs and noting that they fail every time they are tried, the president said, “It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win. His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful.”
Still not done on that point, the president skewered Mamdani as one with a complete and total record of failure as a politician and communist, saying, “I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE.”
He further added, on that point, that Mamdani will wreck NYC if given power over it, saying, “He was nothing as an Assemblyman, ranked at the bottom of the class and, as Mayor of potentially, again, the Greatest City in the World, HE HAS NO CHANCE to bring it back to its former Glory!”

Concluding his threats with a plea for reasonable New Yorkers to vote for moderate Democrat Andrew Cuomo, he said, “We must also remember this — A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”
