Trump Vows Major Legal and Funding Action against Cities that Refuse to Get on Board with His Agenda

In a recent post to Truth Social, President Donald Trump demolished far-left sanctuary cities by announcing that he was working on a way to strip federal funding from woke municipalities that defy immigration laws. Slamming these deep-blue cities, the president compared them to “death traps,” and vowed to bring the problem to an end.

For context, sanctuary cities limit cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by passing obstructive laws to protect illegal aliens. Their policies often ban sharing information with federal authorities or prohibit local police from asking about immigration status. Critics have pointed out that these laws defy federal relations, undermine presidential authority, and make the nation more dangerous.

In his viral April 10, 2025, post, the President said, “No more Sanctuary Cities! They protect the Criminals, not the Victims. They are disgracing our Country, and are being mocked all over the World. Working on papers to withhold all Federal Funding for any City or State that allows these Death Traps to exist!!!”

This is far from the only move the Trump administration has made to combat sanctuary cities. As we reported, US Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a lawsuit against several high-ranking officials in the ultra-woke state of New York, because of the so-called “green-light law,” which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses but shields their DMV records from federal authorities.

Announcing the lawsuit in a video, Bondi explained her reasoning. She said, “We’ve personally sued the governor, the Attorney General, Letitia James, and Mark Schroeder with DMV because he has the green light laws. So what they have to do is start complying with federal law. If they don’t, we’re going to appeal it, and we will win. They have to comply with federal law.

Explaining additional details in a filing, the Department of Justice (DOJ) wrote, “By intent and design, the Green Light Law is a frontal assault on the federal immigration laws and the federal authorities that administer them. More than that, the Law has had dangerous consequences—precisely because it has worked as intended.”

Building on this point, the DOJ stated that the laws “have the purpose and effect of making it more difficult for, and deliberately impeding, federal immigration officers’ ability to carry out their responsibilities in those jurisdictions.”

Slamming the deep blue state, the DOJ said, “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today. As you know, we sued Illinois, and New York didn’t listen. So now you’re next. Millions of illegal aliens with violent records have flooded into our communities, bringing violence and deadly drugs with them.”

Concluding her remarks, Bondi promised to bring other sanctuary cities to heel. She said, “President Trump has directed this to stop. And if you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable. We did it to an Illinois Strike one. Strike two is New York, and if you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next. Get ready.”
