In an epic flurry of social media posts, on November 21, 2025, President Trump ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis in Minnesota, labeling the state under Gov. Tim Walz a “hub of fraudulent money laundering” where “Somali gangs are terrorizing” residents and “BILLIONS” are missing, demanding they “send them back.”
For context, this decision, which will apply to hundreds of immigrants, stems from a Manhattan Institute report alleging fraud in programs like Feeding Our Future and Medicaid Housing Stabilization, which funneled millions to Al-Shabaab via remittances.
In a desperate attempt to dodge responsibility, Gov Walz, who was embarrassingly defeated in the 2024 election, decried the move, while leftist NGO CAIR called it Islamophobic. Sources claim Minnesota taxpayers fund terrorism across the world.
Announcing the news, President Donald Trump said, “Minnesota, under Governor [Tim] Walz, is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota.”
Continuing his comments, the president provided his reasoning for shutting off TPS status for the Somali migrants, pointing to the missing billions. “Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!,” the president noted.
Responding, Gov. Tim Walz deflected with a bitter response that blamed Trump rather than the Somali fraudsters. Walz said, “It’s not surprising that the President has chosen to broadly target an entire community. This is what he does to change the subject.”
Jaylani Hussein, speaking on behalf of CAIR-MN, was angry with Trump’s decision. “We are deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen to end the Somali TPS program in Minnesota, a legal lifeline for families who have built their lives here for decades,” the activist said. Continuing the entitled rant, Hussein said, “This is not just a bureaucratic change; it is a political attack on the Somali and Muslim community driven by Islamophobic and hateful rhetoric.”

However, a confidential federal counterterrorism source saw the situation differently. “The largest funder of Al-Shabaab is the Minnesota taxpayer, ” the official said, Fox News reports. “Every scrap of economic activity, in the Twin Cities, in America, throughout Western Europe, anywhere Somalis are concentrated, every cent that is sent back to Somalia benefits Al-Shabaab in some way.”
Additionally, infamous squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was defiant. “Good luck celebrating a policy change that really doesn’t have much impact on the Somalis you love to hate. We are here to stay,” Omar said, “I am a citizen and so are majority of Somalis in America… we are here to stay.”
Republican elected officials, such as Rep. Tom Emmer, R-MN, applauded the move. Emmer tweeted, “President Trump is right — fraud under Walz is out of control and unacceptable. Minnesotans are done with it and it ends when we fire @Tim_Walz & I am Governor!”
When news of the decision made it to social media, conservatives were elated. “This is absolutely fantastic, President Trump’s great move to terminate TPS for these 27,000 Somali nationals is long overdue and a massive win for American security and justice!” a popular tweet read.
