According to recent reports, a Trump supporter was viciously assaulted inside a New York grocery store and was targeted for wearing a “Trump 2024.” Following the attack, a 60-year-old man, Robert Yott, was arrested for the attack after the victim was repeatedly punched in the face and head. Reportedly, the Trump supporter was left with broken teeth and was severely bloodied.
The Bath Village Police Department released a statement describing the incident. “On [November 1], around 10:00 a.m., the Village of Bath Police Department was dispatched to a fight at the Tops Friendly Markets,” the press release began. “It was determined that Robert Yott, age 60, of Bath, initiated a confrontation with a stranger inside Tops, after becoming aggressive over the fact that the stranger was wearing a Trump 2024 hat,” the statement added.
Detailing the violent assault against the blue-state Trump supporter, the statement from the police department continued, “Mr. Yott punched the victim in the mouth and head several times, causing the victim’s teeth to be broken and mouth bloody. Mr. Yott was not known to the victim and this appears to be a random act of violence.”
“Mr. Yott was arrested and charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor,” the department concluded in the Facebook post. “Mr. Yott was processed and transported to Steuben County Jail where he is currently awaiting CAP arraignment.”
The attack comes after years of high-ranking Democratic politicians pushing hostile rhetoric and demonizing former President Donald Trump and his supporters. For example, during the early days of the Trump administration, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) caught backlash for calling on citizens to harass Trump officials in public, calling for a “zero tolerance” policy toward them.
“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere. We’ve got to get the children connected to their parents,” Waters said.
More recently, Waters has spread alarmism against MAGA Republicans, labeling them “domestic terrorists” and stoking fears that they are “training up in the hills” in preparation to enact political violence. Furthermore, Democrats have incessantly compared former President Trump to fascist, authoritarian dictators, while suggesting he is a threat to the country. Many have blamed this hostile rhetoric for the assassination attempts carried out against him.
The American Tribune recently reported on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) delivering an alarming rant about former President Trump, suggesting that he has no respect for human equality and states “the words of Adolf Hitler.” AOC said, “When, when he pursues that and it’s very important for us to understand that that racism is not a name or an insult. It is a descriptor of a belief system. It’s a descriptor of a belief system. And Donald Trump believes that Americans are not created equal.”
She added, “So when they go on a stage and echo the words of Adolf Hitler, this is real life. This is real life when he goes up on a stage and the people that he wants to appoint as leadership heads in administration, and they echo the words of Adolf Hitler in America,” she stated.
