As the 2024 race heats up and the top GOP contenders angle for support from the Republicans with any degree of popularity or power, former President Donald Trump has continued snagging endorsements from some of the top GOP legislators and politicians. Joining many other members of his party in backing Trump for the 2024 race was Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who did so in a post on X.
In his social media post about Trump and why he is endorsing him, Sen. Cotton explained how he saw the state of things in America under Trump and how he sees the state of the country under Bidne, arguing that everything important was in a much better spot under Trump.
Beginning, he explained the dichotomy between their two presidencies, saying, “When Donald Trump was president, America was safe, strong, and prosperous. The economy was booming, working-class wages were growing, our border was secure, and our enemies feared us. With Joe Biden as president, everything has gone to hell: families can’t afford groceries, our border is wide open to a full-blown invasion, and our enemies are starting wars everywhere.”
Continuing, Cotton argued that he thinks Trump will be able to make life better for Arkansans, saying, “I endorse President Trump and I look forward to working with him to win back the White House and the Senate so we can help hardworking Arkansans suffering from Joe Biden’s disastrous policies. It’s time to get our country back on track.“
Not all were happy with Sen. Cotton, however. In addition to the outraged RINOs and Democrats, some on the MAGA right argued that Sen. Cotton should have backed Trump when doing so was less popular. One commenter, for example, said, “You all should have endorsed him over a year ago when Joe Biden ordered the FBI to raid his home. Waiting 18 months to see if your voters would abandon him too is a terrible look. Better late than never I guess but you have a long way to go to earn peoples votes back.”
Cotton did stand by Trump after the 2016 Access Hollywood tapes leak, saying, “Donald apologized to the American people, said his remarks were embarrassing, and acknowledges that while he can’t change what he said years ago, he can change Washington now. I encourage him to keep focusing on the issues that matter to Americans.”
In any case, also endorsing Trump at the beginning of this new year was Tom Emmer of Minnesota, who said, “Joe Biden’s failed policies have left Minnesotans to grapple with double digit inflation, higher taxes, and a border crisis that has turned every community into a border community. Minnesotans and all Americans deserve better. It is time for Republicans to come together in support of a leader who has what it takes to get our country back on track. We stand together to endorse Donald J. Trump for President.”
Alabama Sen. Katie Britt has endorsed Trump as well. She said, “He secured our southern border. He cut taxes and slashed burdensome regulations. He expanded access to a high-quality education. He stood up for our incredible farmers and cattlemen. He battled for fair trade and held Communist China accountable. He onshored good-paying jobs and began rebuilding critical domestic supply chains and industries. He unleashed American energy dominance. He defended religious liberty. He combatted the opioid epidemic. He made our communities safer. He rebuilt our military, bolstered our readiness, and modernized our capabilities. He fought for our veterans. And he achieved peace through strength – no wars were started under his watch for a reason. Our adversaries feared America, and our allies were protected. He obliterated ISIS, signed the Abraham Accords, kept Putin’s aggression at bay, stared down Kim Jong Un, and squeezed Iran dry,” the senator said.
She continued, “That’s why President Trump is dominating in the polls and why his insurmountable lead only continues to grow as primary dates draw closer. As the American people have heard from the candidates and continuously borne the brunt of the Biden agenda, they have been further and further reminded of the brighter days of the Trump Administration – and now they’re more energized than ever to make the one choice they know can ensure that those days return. Americans concerned about saving the country we know and love are rallying as a team to retake the White House.”
