Former President Donald Trump sounded off on Vice President Kamala Harris in a fiery Truth Social post, accusing her of stealing and lying about his idea to no longer tax the tips that hospitality and restaurant workers receive. Trump, as background, proposed the idea in Vegas in June, and Kamala recently echoed it.
Vice President Harris, as background, pushed the idea when speaking at a rally she held on the campus of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas on the evening of Saturday, August 10. During the rally, Harris pledged to fight for “working families of Americans,” including by instituting a no tax on tips policy.
Beginning, she said there was a “wage theft” policy against which she fought as California AG, claiming, “When I was attorney general of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft. When I was a United States senator, we fought together for paid family leave and medical leave.”
Getting to the tips part, she said, “And earlier this year, right here in Vegas, we celebrated your historic contract win. And it is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue our fight for the working families of America. Including to raise the minimum wage. And eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”
Roasting her for it in a post on Truth Social, former President Trump accused her of stealing his idea and desperately trying to boost her own popularity by pushing such a policy. He began by saying, “Kamala Harris, whose “Honeymoon” period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy.”
Continuing, he accused her of just pretending to support the policy that he actually wants to put into effect, adding that it is his idea and she is trying to cover her own inability to come up with policy proposals by copying it from him. He wrote, “The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me.”
He then added that the Biden-Harris Administration had proposed a shockingly large tax increase and that, as a result, Americans should not believe her claim that she won’t tax tips. He wrote, “Remember, Kamala has proposed the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY – It won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

In June of this year, as a reminder, former President Trump said, while speaking to rallygoers in Las Vegas, “For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy, because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips. … It’s been a point of contention for years and years and years, and you do a great job of service, you take care of people and I think it’s going to be something that really is deserved.”
