Former President Donald Trump recently revealed his future plans for when he eventually retires from his political endeavors. Trump made the announcement that he would seek residence in Texas when he retires after he had received an endorsement from the National Rife Association.
“I want to move to Texas and I want to retire in Texas… a lot of people are moving to Texas,” the former president said. Trump has spent extensive time in Texas, reportedly visiting the Lone Star State 18 times during his presidency and 13 times after his term ended.
While Trump didn’t indicate whether his comment was a serious commitment to becoming a Texan, it would align with his past red-state move from New York to Florida during his time in office. Trump spoke before the NRA convention in Dallas, Texas, last week, where he praised the organization for its support of Trump.
“The NRA has stood with me from the very beginning, and with your vote, I will stand strong for your rights and liberties,” Trump said. “I heard it a few weeks ago that if gun owners voted, we would swamp them at levels that nobody’s ever seen before. I think you’re a rebellious bunch, but let’s be rebellious and vote this time.”
During his speech at the convention, the former president also praised Texas Governor Greg Abbott. “We’re also grateful to be joined by a very special man. He’s a hot politician, very hot,” Trump said about the governor. “You’re a hot politician, Greg. You know why he’s hot… because he’s doing a good job.”
Abbott\ recently illustrated the dire need to protect gun rights in both Texas and the rest of the country. “Now more than ever, we must fight to protect our Second Amendment rights. According to the NRA, Texas has passed more significant Second Amendment protections than any other state,” Abbott stated.
Trump also emphasized the need for private firearm ownership. During his speech before the NRA, he said, “We need the Second Amendment for safety. Forget about going hunting and all the things you do — we need it for safety. Because you know the bad guys are not giving up their guns. The bad ones are not giving up their guns.”
The GOP frontrunner explained to the audience that the Second Amendment is “under siege” and that conservatives must defend the right to bear arms. “I said they just were under siege with the guns, the rifles and everything else were under siege but they didn’t move as an inch and we have to stay in strong you know that stand very strong,” he told the crowd.
However, Trump noted that he will fight for everyone’s rights and freedoms while seeking to make America great again. “The NRA has stood with me from the very beginning and with your vote, I will stand strong for your rights and liberties. And for more years in the White House. We’re going to do things like nobody can believe we’re going to turn our country around. We’re going to quite simply make America great again,” he said.
