Speaking to podcast host Patrick Bet David, boxer Mike Tyson, back in the news thanks to his upcoming fight with Jake Paul, said that he recently had dinner with the Trump family. Commenting on Barron Trump in particular, Tyson said Trump’s now-18-year-old son is extremely smart. Tyson also gave a glowing recommendation of the former president himself, saying that Trump is “the man.”
Beginning the clip that took the internet by storm, Bet David recounted a recent incident where Trump showed up at a UFC fight alongside Mike Tyson, Kid Rock, and Dana White, saying, “We were at the UFC fight in Miami. And you walked up with Trump. And that place lost their mind, when you guys walked up. I don’t know if you…?”
Responding, Mike Tyson gave him a glowing recommendation of Trump and commented on how deep Trump’s base of support is amongst his biggest fans, telling Bet David that “People don’t like it, but Trump is the man. Trump is the man, he has his fan base, he has his supporters, and they’re gonna stick with him to the end.”
Bet David then asked Tyson, “How has he been to you over the years?” Tyson, remaining similarly positive about Trump, said, “I never had a bad moment with him.” Bet David, somewhat surprised, asked for clarification, “You never had a bad moment with him?” Tyson, affirming what he had just said, told Bet David, “No, no.” He added, “Became very…profited from him. It was just, great relationship.”And it was just off the hook. Barron is so smart… This kid is on top of his game, intellectually, at 17 years old.
Bet David asked, “When did you guys…,” but Tyson cut him off, saying, “I just had dinner with him a week ago.” Bet David asked for details, saying, “Where were you guys, in Mar-a-Lago?” Tyson said, “Yeah, in Mar-a-Lago.” Then, when Bet David asked him, “How was that?” Tyson said, “It was awesome. Me, him, Barron, and his mother [Melania]. And it was just off the hook. Barron is so smart. The young kid…he’s 6′ 8″. This guy is on top of his game, intellectually, that is, at 17 years old.”
Then, when asked, “Was Melania there?” Tyson said, “Yes, Melania was there as well.” And, when asked, “How was your interaction with her? What is she like?” Tyson said, “Awesome. It’s like, the president’s wife, the First Lady.”

As background, Tyson and Trump have been close since Tyson hired him in 1988 as his adviser. Trump, commenting on the matter then, said, “Mike Tyson has asked me and I have agreed, to serve jointly, with regard to future decisions about Mike Tyson’s career, including but not limited to the lawsuits going back and forth between Mike and his current manager, Bill Cayton.”
Tyson helped Trump in 2015, when Trump was running for president the first time and was being accused of Islamophobia. Tyson, a convert to Islam who joined that religion while in prison, publically backed Trump, helping limit some of the force from those allegations.
