Immigration officials within the Trump administration recently captured an illegal immigrant accused of committing r*pe who was previously freed on a plea deal in New York City. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Kail Cadenas, originally from Ecuador, was arrested on Monday in Queens. He had been released from his criminal case just weeks prior.
Reportedly, Cardenas was arrested and charged with first-degree r*pe and first-degree sexual assault after he allegedly molested a woman at an apartment party in 2023. The charges could have sent Cardenas to prison for up to 25 years. However, reports indicate that Cardenas struck a deal with Queens prosecutors that helped him avoid jail time.
The Ecuadorian illegal immigrant pleaded guilty to a lesser third-degree r*pe charge in a deal sparing him jail time if he completed a year of sex offender counseling. In January, Cardenas was sentenced to time already served in jail and was released. The court issued an order of protection for Cardenas to stay away from the victim.
However, Cardenas is now back in custody after federal agents apprehended him this week amid broader mass arrests of illegal immigrants with criminal records across New York. DEA New York posted about the operation on X, writing, “#DEANewYork continues, along with our @thejusticedept & other federal law enforcement partners, to assist @dhsgov with their #immigration enforcement efforts targeting violent illegal criminals.”
Trump administration Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, provided an update on the operation on X, writing, “Just now. Enforcement operation in NYC. Criminal alien with kidnapping, assault & burglary charges is now in custody – thanks to @ICE. Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets.”
The swift enactment of the mass deportation agenda demonstrates that the Trump administration seeks to hold true to its campaign promises to fix the illegal immigration crisis endured over the past several years. Last year, Vice President JD Vance sent a firm statement to illegal immigrants who pose a public safety threat to “pack your bags.”
Vance said, “I think it’s very simple. Actually, the first thing that you have to do, and the first ;thing that President Trump will do, is stop the massive inflow of illegal aliens in the first place. You gotta stop the bleeding before you can actually fix the problem here. And we still have 1000s of people coming across the border illegal every single day.”

“So the first thing you do, you reimplement deportations, you finish construction of the border wall, and you stop proposing mass amnesty for millions of illegal aliens,” Vance said, prioritizing securing the southern border. “That solves the majority of the border problem. On day one, President Trump already did it, and he will certainly do it again.”
Vance maintained, “I think it’s important that we send a message that if you have come to this country illegally, if you plowed into an innocent mom and her daughter and they lost their lives because of your actions. The message from the Trump administration is simple, pack your bags, because in four months, you’re going home. We do not consent to an invasion of this country for millions of people who shouldn’t be here, and we are going to deport people now you start with the people who are most dangerous. You start with the most violent criminals, you make it harder for businesses to hire illegal aliens, and you work your way down from there.”
