Following his arrest in Fulton County, Georgia, Former President Donald Trump got some better-than-expected news from the state despite his increasing legal issues, as residents in the state threw their support behind him in a massive way, much to the detriment of his competitors in the 2024 race.
That good news for the former president was in the form of a poll conducted by an area newspaper and state university that showed that he now holds the support of nearly 60 percent of likely Republican voters in the state, towering over the rest of the GOP field.
In fact, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll, which was conducted by the School of Public & International Affairs (SPIA) at the University of Georgia, found that 57 percent of likely primary voters support Trump for the 2024 nomination. That wasn’t just good news because it was a large amount, but also because it showed an improvement for him since April, when a poll conducted by SPIA showed he held 51 percent of the likely Republican Georgia electorate.
The big loser of the poll was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, referred to as Ron DeSanctimonious by the former president, who lost a whopping 15 points of support between April and the recent poll, putting him much farther behind Trump than he had been in April.

The poll was likely an at least somewhat reliable indicator of with whom the loyalties of Georgia’s voters lie. It sampled the responses of over 800 likely GOP primary voters and had a margin of error of just ± 3.4 percentage points.
It is also broadly in line with the rest of the nation, as a recent poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos found that Trump has about 52% support, about 5% better than the 47% he had earlier in the month of August, while DeSantis is stuck far behind him in second place with just 13% support among Republicans.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, posting about the poll on Truth Social, said, “A year ago, Georgia – my home state, was one of the only states I was concerned about. My friend Matt Gaetz kept reassuring me, “wait until Ron is tested and on stage.” Now DeSantis support has dried up harder than Joe Biden’s cold blooded America last heart. Georgia is solidly Trump country!!! Of course our good ole boy establishment “Republicans” will continue their Trump Derangement Syndrome America last globalist agenda, but the people are making it clear. WE WANT TRUMP!!!”
And while the GOP half of the country is generally behind Trump despite the indictments, Melania is reportedly behind him as well as he fends off the legal attacks. Speaking in a radio interview about how she views the situation, Trump said, “And in a very low-key way, she doesn’t care that much. She’s got an attitude that’s amazing. She’s got a tremendous heart. But she takes things for what they are and she’s just a very confident person. She doesn’t need things like some people, they’re always pushing themselves out there – she’s the opposite.”
