Vanessa Trump announced that she is finally cancer-free after a breast cancer battle that began with an April diagnosis. The mother of five shared the news in a video alongside her daughter, Kai Trump, who responded with an affectionate message to her mom. Her announcement followed surgery and months of treatment. The family had first publicly revealed her diagnosis in May, when Vanessa thanked her doctors and loved ones for their support.
Kai, President Donald Trump’s 19-year-old granddaughter, posted the preview on Instagram during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She and her mother, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., sat down with Dr. Nicole Saphier for a conversation about Vanessa’s experience and early detection. Introducing the discussion, Kai said, “And my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in April, so we thought we’d share her story and how she was diagnosed, how she overcame it.”
Saphier, a former Fox News medical contributor, addressed the role that public conversations can play in keeping breast cancer awareness in front of people. “It feels different for everyone,” she said. “The reason I like social media talking about breast cancer is because it’s reminding people that it is common.” In the accompanying caption, Kai explained that their discussion would also cover prevention and announced plans to release the full conversation on YouTube the following day.
The preview ended with Vanessa delivering the news about her health, as Fox News reported. “And it came back clear, so I’m finally cancer-free,” she said. Kai responded, “Love you!” Earlier in the year, Vanessa had introduced her diagnosis publicly with a written statement: “I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.”
At the time of that May announcement, Vanessa said doctors had performed a procedure earlier that week. She was working with her medical team to determine the course of her care. “While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan,” she wrote. “I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me.”
Ivanka Trump offered encouragement after the diagnosis became public, writing, “Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery. Love you mama.” In June, Vanessa reported that she was recovering from surgery and preparing for the second stage of treatment. Her recovery continued through the summer as Kai prepared to leave home and begin her freshman year at the University of Miami.

In an August interview with Fox News Digital, Kai discussed the difficult days before leaving for college. “There was definitely, there was a lot of crying in, like, the week leading up,” she said. “We would just be driving, and then we’d just start crying together.” She also offered an update on Vanessa’s condition: “My mom, she’s doing a lot better.”
Kai said treatment had initially left her mother feeling unwell, but her condition was improving by the time of the interview. Reflecting on their summer, she described the additional time together as a “blessing in disguise.” “I was able to spend extra time with her that I would normally probably spend on the golf course,” Kai said. “It was nice to spend those extra hours with her throughout the day before going to college.”
