President Donald Trump unleashed his full fury against Republican in Name Only (RINO) Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) in a post published on Truth Social, exposing what he and many other conservatives perceive as a betrayal of the American people while also pushing to primary Massie by supporting a different candidate for his seat in the 2026 midterm election.
The post opened with Trump swinging for the fences against Massie, who he referred to as a “Weak and Pathetic RINO,” before going on to share his love of the state of Kentucky, noting he won the state by large margins six times. He explained that these victories pointed toward the 4th Congressional District in the state giving the government a mandate to adopt the president’s America First agenda and that Massie himself is not the right choice to help him as president achieve that goal. Instead, he offered his endorsement of former Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and fifth generation Kentucky farmer Captain Ed Gallrein as the man for the job.
“Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, a Weak and Pathetic RINO from the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a place I love, and won big SIX TIMES, must be thrown out of office, ASAP! The incredible people of Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District gave us a mandate to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that will help us do that is Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Fifth Generation Kentucky Farmer, Captain Ed Gallrein, a true America First Patriot,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
President Trump then went on to provide a little background about Gallrein, including an explanation for why he believes that he is the right choice to replace Massie. He touted Gallrein’s wisdom and understanding about the kind of strategies that need to be employed in order to defend the country, support both active military members and veterans, while securing peace for the nation through a show of strength. He also dove into Gallrein’s extensive success as a businessman and his ability and know-how when it comes to creating jobs.
“A Brave Combat Veteran, Ed knows the Wisdom and Courage required to Defend our Country, Support our Military/Veterans, and Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH. Additionally, as a very successful Businessman, Ed knows how to Create GREAT Jobs, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Support our Amazing Farmers and American Agriculture, Unleash American Energy Dominance, and Champion our Nation’s Golden Age. In Congress, he will fight tirelessly to Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump continued.
The president then concluded by saying, “I hope Ed gets into the Race against Massie, who is now polling at about 9% because the Great People of Kentucky are wise to him — He only votes against the Republican Party, making life very easy for the Radical Left. Unlike ‘lightweight’ Massie, a totally ineffective LOSER who has failed us so badly, CAPTAIN ED GALLREIN IS A WINNER WHO WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. Should he decide to challenge Massie, Captain Ed Gallrein has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, ED, RUN — MAGA!”
Massie and Trump are at the opposite end of a lot of issues. The Kentucky Republican describes himself as a “Tea Party conservative,” using said designation to explain his opposition to major spending bills championed by the president, such as the Big, Beautiful Bill Act, citing concerns the legislation will increase the national debt.

The two men have also butted heads over foreign policy and war powers. Massie has repeatedly slammed actions taken by the U.S. military in the Middle East, claiming they are unconstitutional, while advocating that only Congress should have the power to declare war, a position that has left President Trump frustrated on more than one occasion. Then, of course, there’s the infamous Epstein files.
Massie led a group of bipartisan lawmakers in a mission to force Trump’s Justice Department to publicly release all of the files. According to Politico, Trump initially opposed Massie’s efforts on this front, however, he did eventually sign a bill into law to release the documents, prompting Massie to say that the president finally “got tired of me winning.” The many breaks Massie has made from the GOP party line and frustrating his attempts to implement his America First agenda have prompted Trump to call for a primary opponent to boot him from office.
