Whatever their end effect on the general voting population in 2024, the indictments of former President Donald Trump have rallied the GOP base to his cause. As the indictments roll in and the pearl-clutching usual suspects in the media and Uniparty positions of prominence pronounce the “end” for Trump, his numbers for the primary are rocketing upward.
News on that comes from a recent New York TImes-Sienna poll, which showed that Trump has built on his pre-existing lead over the Florida governor and now is beating him by a massive 27 points, leading 54 percent to DeSantis’ 17 percent. The poll also showed that, if the race were head-to-head between DeSantis and Trump, as Romney wants it to be, Trump would dominate with two-thirds of the vote to DeSantis’ one-third.
The New York Times added that the news was even worse for DeSantis than it appeared at first glance. That is because DeSantis won over only nine percent of those at least 65 years old and thirteen percent of those who don’t have a college degree, with those of any age or background who identify as “very conservative” favoring Trump by 50 points, 65 to 15, over DeSantis.
While the poll held bad news for DeSantis, it held even worse news for the other candidates. Pence is down to three percent, putting him right alongside Senator Tim Scott and neocon Nikki Haley. Vivek and Chris Christie are each at about two percent. So, based on the poll, the primary is Trump’s race to lose.
Trump, in addition to posting the results of the poll on Truth Social, ripped into the candidates with no support who continue to attack him, the guy with a huge amount of support from the GOP base and a serious chance at winning the primary and general elections.
In one post, for example, Trump said, “RINO Chris Sununu recently stated that, I’m not running for president in 2024. Beating Trump is more important.’ No, he’s not running for President because he’s polling at Zero, and has no chance of winning. The people of New Hampshire have gotten wise to Chris Sununu, and they no longer like or respect him. I never liked him, but always did whatever he asked for the State, because I wanted to help New Hampshire, and I did!”
He also argued that the debates, given his wide lead, aren’t about determining a candidate but are instead about finding his Vice Presidential candidate. He said, “Let them debate so I can see who I MIGHT consider for Vice President!”
Trump also argued that the investigations and indictments are election interference, an attitude with which many GOP voters might agree given how well Trump is polling. Posting about that issue, he said, “Hillary Clinton deleted 33,000 Emails, many of them Classified, after getting a Subpoena from Congress. Nothing happened to her, & stupid James Comey, then head of the FBI, stated that no reasonable prosecutor would prosecute this. Then why is Deranged Jack Smith prosecuting me when I did nothing wrong, as per the PRA? The answer is Election Interference – They are using the Department of Injustice in an attempt to Rig & Steal the Presidential Election on 2024. This is Prosecutorial Misconduct!“
