Trump Deploys More Agents to Crack Down on Somali Migrant Child Care Fraud Allegations in Minnesota

In response to massive fraud involving Somali-run daycares in Minnesota, President Donald Trump has dispatched more federal agents to the state to continue cracking down on the waste of federal taxpayer dollars taking place there. The move comes after conservative YouTube influencer Nick Shirley created a video that claimed daycare centers run by Somali residents in the city of Minneapolis had misappropriated over $100 million.

FBI Director Kash Patel published a post on X stating that the bureau was already looking into the matter, writing, “This is just the tip of a very large iceberg.” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also posted a video of agents on the ground in Minneapolis.

However, city and state officials have been giving major pushback against the claims made by Shirley, as the Trump administration continues to crack down on illegal immigration within the Somali community. In the early part of December, federal prosecutors stated that they were looking into an estimated $9 billion worth of fraud in over a dozen Medicaid-funded programs in the state.

The initial fraud investigations launched in the state began with the discovery of misappropriated funds from a program called Feeding Our Future, which was intended to feed kids during the COVID pandemic when schools were closed. According to PBS, Republicans have been laying the blame for the out-of-control fraud being perpetrated in Minnesota on Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s shoulders.

Walz’s office responded to the allegations in a statement delivered to the media, saying, “Fraud is unacceptable and it is appropriate that the federal government is investigating problems in federal programs. The governor has been combating this for years, and before the viral video, the state had already referred these cases to law enforcement.”

Noem stated on January 11, 2026, that “hundreds more” federal officers were being sent to Minneapolis after 37-year-old anti-ICE agitator Renee Good was shot and killed after attempting to run an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official over with her car. A report from MS Now said that Noem, speaking with Fox News, stated the reason for sending in additional federal officers is “to allow our ICE and Border Patrol individuals working in Minneapolis to do so safely.”

Following the shooting of Good, Gov. Walz, along with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, also a Democrat, came out with proverbial guns blazing against the administration, demanding that federal immigration officials leave the city, claiming their presence and the operations they are conducting were making the area less safe. During a news conference, Frey became so angry over the shooting that he told immigration officers to “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” promising he would get justice for Good’s death.

Both Noem and President Trump referred to Good as a “domestic terrorist” due to her obstinate demeanor during a protest against an ICE operation that was being conducted at the time. Good refused to stop and exit the vehicle despite repeated orders to do so. Her wife can be heard on body cam footage telling Good, “drive, baby, drive.” She then put the car in drive and then smacked into the officer in front of her vehicle, sending him to the hospital with internal bleeding.
