Following alleged revelations from the House GOP and Just the News’ John Solomon about the January 6 Committee’s approach to evidence exonerating former President Donald Trump regarding his behavior on January 6, former President Donald Trump argued that former Rep. Liz Cheney and other members of the committee should be jailed.
As background, Trump’s tweet came after the House GOP released a report regarding the claim from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson that, on January 6, Trump attempted to grab the steering wheel of the SUV in which he was riding in an attempt to direct it toward the Capitol, and that he lunged at his head of security. The report “refuted” that claim.
Just the News’ John Solomon then took to Truth Social to comment on the situation and expose former Rep. Liz Cheney’s alleged role in it. Including a link to a Just the News article about Cheney’s alleged role, he wrote, “Updated: Liz Cheney sat in interview with Secret Service driver who denied story Trump tried to commandeer presidential limo on Jan. 6 but did not include in final report.”
The shared Just the News article quotes the report as saying, “The driver testified that he specifically refuted the version of events as recounted by Hutchinson. The driver of the SUV testified that he ‘did not see him reach [redacted]. [President Trump] never grabbed the steering wheel. I didn’t see him, you know, lunge to try to get into the front seat at all.‘”
Former President Donald Trump responded to the post from John Solomon about former Rep. Liz Cheney and her alleged involvement in the situation, writing, “She should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” In a second post about Cheney, Trump alleged that she destroyed evidence, writing, “SHE SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO OUR COUNTRY! SHE ILLEGALLY DESTROYED THE EVIDENCE. UNREAL!!!”
in the second post, Trump included a link to a Federalist article in which Kash Patel claims, “A key pillar of the left’s propaganda about insurrection is to distort the truth surrounding whether Trump authorized, prior to Jan. 6, the deployment of National Guard troops to keep order on that day. The main architect of this disinformation campaign is former Congresswoman Liz Cheney.“
Former Rep. Cheney took to X to fire back at Trump. She said, in a post responding to his demand she be arrested, “Hi Donald: you know these are lies. You have had all the grand jury & J6 transcripts for many months. You’re trying to halt your 1/6 trial because your VP, WH counsel, WH aides, campaign & DOJ officials etc will testify against you. You’re afraid of the truth and you should be.”
Trump isn’t the only one who has suggested that criminal prosecution could be on the horizon for members of the January 6 Select Committee. Rep. Loudermilk, who investigated the select committee, did as well, alleging during an interview with John Solomon that members of the committee destroyed evidence and that referring them to the DOJ for prosecution was being considered, among other responses.
