Recently, former President Donald Trump heavily criticized the Biden administration for the violent Hamas attacks against Israel, claiming such atrocities would have never occurred if he was in the White House. Mr. Trump made the comments while on the campaign trail.
While in New Hampshire campaigning, Trump confidently stated that “the atrocities we are witnessing in Israel would never have happened if I was president.” The Republican frontrunner further alleged that “Joe Biden betrayed Israel.”
Amid a prominent Jewish holiday, Hamas militants, known to have ties to Iran, committed the deadliest attack on Israel in decades. According to the latest reports, the fatal massacre resulted in over 1,900 dead Israelis and over a hundred taken back to Gaza as hostages. At least 14 American citizens were killed in the attack as well.
Republicans have blasted the Biden administration for the recent transfer of $6 billion in funds to Iran during a negotiation to release five U.S. citizens detained in Iran. Reportedly, the frozen Iranian funds were held in South Korea, which were then transferred to an account in Qatar for the safe release of the American hostages.
Trump slammed President Biden as “incompetent” while highlighting the Middle Eastern peace attained under his administration. Trump said, “Less than four years ago, we had peace in the Middle East with the historic Abraham Accords. Today we have an all-out war in Israel, and it’s going to spread very quickly. What a difference a president makes.”
“Now they’re pouring into our country. They’re pouring into our country. Joe Biden undid it. He ended it all and gave billions and billions of dollars to the world’s top sponsor of terror, tossing Israel to the bloodthirsty terrorists and jihadists,” Mr. Trump continued, railing against Biden’s foreign policy toward the region.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley also weighed in on the Iran funds controversy, criticizing the “irresponsible” comments from Secretary of State Antony Blinken. According to Blinken, we have “yet to see the evidence” that Iran supported the attack against Israel with the unfrozen funds.
“I actually think it was irresponsible for Secretary Blinken to say that the $6 billion doesn’t weigh in here,” Haley said in an interview with NBC. “I mean, let’s be honest with the American people and understand that Hamas knows and Iran knows they’re moving money around as we speak because they know $6 billion is going to be released. That’s the reality.”
Emphasizing the geopolitical history with Iran, Haley claimed there was good reason to assume the billions of unfrozen funds could go toward nefarious purposes. “To think that they’re not moving money around is irresponsible,” Haley stated. “They hate Israel. They hate America. They are going to continue to use this. It was wrong to release the $6 billion.”
Haley also condemned the Biden administration’s overall foreign policy toward the Middle East, drawing on other failures. “It was wrong to go and have that debacle in Afghanistan. It was wrong to waive sanctions on Iran that gave them even more money. Money has been flowing to Iran, and that is the problem, because when Iran gets money, they use it for hate.”
