In a celebratory post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump celebrated the Texas House finally taking steps to move the ball forward on redistricting, a move that would mean an end for nearly a half-dozen Democratic House seats. The Texas House of Representatives had been unable to move the ball forward because Democrats fled so as to block the creation of a quorum.
Now, that has come to an end, with the House Democrats returning to the state to avoid being arrested or losing their seats in response to having broken the law by fleeing the state and not showing up to vote on the redistricting bill. So, the Texas House was able to move forward, reaching a quorum on the night of Monday, August 18 and introducing the bill.
President Trump celebrated the move forward and called on the state legislature to pass the map and get rid of the numerous Democratic seats, insinuating in the post that all the other red states should follow and do their best to disenfranchise Democrats with revised Congressional seat maps like that under consideration in Texas.
Beginning his post, the president said that he won Texas all three times and celebrated the House having introduced the new map. He said, “Republican State Legislators in the Great State of Texas, which I love, and WON BIG three times, including with 6.4 Million Votes in 2024 (by far the most Votes in History!), just introduced a new Bill for ONE BIG, BEAUTIFUL CONGRESSIONAL MAP!”
Continuing, the president thanked the various Texas Republican leaders involved with making the new House map struggle happen, and the legislature generally, saying, “Thank you to Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, and the Texas Legislature for your GREAT work.”
Adding to that in more general terms, the president celebrated how great it is that Republicans at the state and national level, as best exemplified are Texas, are stepping up and fighting for their constituents. He said, “It is wonderful to see Republicans everywhere standing up to Save our Country. It is one of the most popular initiatives I have ever supported.”
Concluding his post, the president called on the Texas legislature to pass the map as soon as is possible, indicating that doing so would set the standard for Republicans in other states. He said, “Republicans love watching us fight for a Great Cause. Please pass this Map, ASAP. THANK YOU TEXAS — MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Rep. Dustin Burrows, Speaker of the Texas House, commented on the matter of the new redistricting map to the media, saying, “The House has been through a tumultuous two weeks, but this institution long predates us and will long outlast each of us.”
He then further added, “Representatives come and go, issues rise and fall, but this body has endured wars, economic depressions and quorum breaks dating back to the very first session. It will withstand this too, and what will remain is a chamber where the majority has the right to prevail, the minority has the right to be heard.”
