The Trump Campaign is far from happy with how the Republican National Caucus is handling things in the run-up to the 2024 election, particularly given Trump’s crushing, likely unsurmountable lead over the other candidates and the seeming weaponization of the judicial system against him.
In his campaign’s view, the RNC should stop focusing on debates between candidates with minuscule amounts of support and focus instead on trying to take on Joe Biden by backing Trump and then focusing the full fire of the GOP on Joe Biden, in preparation for the 2024 campaign and the likely contenders in it.
Such is what Trump Campaign Senior Advisor Chris LaCivita said in an email sent out by the Trump Campaign. In his words, “Tonight’s GOP debate was as boring and inconsequential as the first debate, and nothing that was said will change the dynamics of the primary contest being dominated by President Trump. President Trump has a 40- or 50-point lead in the primary election and a 10-point lead over Joe Biden in the general election, and it’s clear that President Trump alone can defeat Biden.”
Continuing, he got to the point about uniting behind attacking Joe Biden with all due energy, saying, “The RNC should immediately put an end to any further primary debates so we can train our fire on Crooked Joe Biden and quit wasting time and money that could be going to evicting Biden from the White House.”
Making a similar point on FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Newt Gingrich said, “I suspect the money is there, but the votes aren’t. I’m a big fan of Glenn Youngkin. I think he’s doing a great job as governor. I think in 2028, he could be a very impressive, maybe even frontrunner for president, but not this time. Not this year.”
Continuing, Gingrich said, “I was talking to our mutual friend, the pollster Matt Towery this afternoon, and Matt said to me, based on what he saw last night, this race is over, Donald Trump will be the nominee, they might as well quit having the various debates because they don’t work, they’re not helping anybody, and I think that’s where we are. I think Trump will be the nominee and the question now for everybody is do you want to see Joe Biden reelected or do you want to help Donald Trump? There’s no middle ground here, I don’t think.”
Gingrich then said, “I think the Republican National Committee should cancel the future debates and say, ‘Look, we recognize the objective fact that Trump will be the nominee. We want to work with him. In some of these races, some of these polls, Trump is like 43 points ahead of the next person, 43 points. He’s gonna be the nominee.”
Former President Trump, for his part, has remained harshly critical of the GOP Old Guard. In a recent post about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, for instance, Trump said, “I hear that Old Crow Mitch McConnell, together with his small band of weak and ineffective RINOS like Mitt Romney and “Hopeless” John Cornyn, are, as usual, trying to cobble together a series of massive concessions for Cryin’ Chuck Schumer and the Lunatic Left, in order to “bail out” Crooked Joe Biden, THE WORST & MOST CORRUPT PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. The Old Crow, and his group of ten (plus) COWARDS, have savaged our Country by approving Trillions of Dollars for Green New Deal Insanity, and the Weaponization of our System of “Injustice.” Don’t do it!!!“
