Donald Trump recently voiced his frustration with the Arizona gubernatorial race between Republican Kari Lake and Democrat Katie Hobbs.
This follows a memo from attorney Mark Sonnenklar that exposed a slew of issues surrounding this election. Additionally, the Arizona Attorney General’s Elections Integrity Unit has demanded answers from Maricopa County regarding “myriad problems” that occurred on Election Day.
Trump commented on the matter, stating:
“This Election was a disgrace, everything was geared by Republicans toward Election Day, and then, when it finally came around, the Republican machines were systematically broken. They should at minimum redo the Arizona Election.”
The memo from Sonnenklar points out that 63% of voting centers are reported to have witnessed “material problems”:
“It seems very clear that the printer/tabulator failures on election day at 62.61 percent of the vote centers observed by 11 roving attorneys, and the resulting long lines at a majority of vote centers, led to substantial voter suppression.”
“Because Republican voters significantly outnumbered Democrat voters in the county on election day, such voter suppression would necessarily impact the vote tallies for Republican candidates much more than the vote tallies for Democrat candidates.”
“Collectively, I and the other 10 roving attorneys also reported that voters had to wait in significant lines at 59 of the 115 vote centers we visited (51.3 percent). In many cases, voters had to wait 1-2 hours before they received a ballot for voting. It is certainly safe to assume that many voters refused to wait in such lines, left the vote center, and did not return to vote later.”
The Election Integrity Unit of Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s office has commented on these issues and demanded answers from Maricopa County. The election will not be certified until these matters are addressed.
The attorney general’s letter stated:
“The Elections Integrity Unit (“Unit”) of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office (“AGO”) has received hundreds of complaints since Election Day pertaining to issues related to the administration of the 2022 General Election in Maricopa County. These complaints go beyond pure speculation, but include first-hand witness accounts that raise concerns regarding Maricopa’s lawful compliance with Arizona election law. Furthermore, statements made by both Chairman Gates and Recorder Richer, along with information Maricopa County released through official modes of communication appear to confirm potential statutory violations of title 16.”
“….Arizonans deserve a full report and accounting of the myriad problems that occurred in relation to Maricopa County’s administration of the 2022 General Election. As the canvass is looming, and these issues relate to Maricopa County’s ability to lawfully certify election results – the Unit requests a response to the aforementioned issues on or before Maricopa County submits its official canvass to the Secretary of State, which must occur on or before November 28, 2022.”
Moreover, two Arizona counties have delayed their certification of the gubernatorial elections over voting concerns. Republicans in these counties voiced concerns that GOP voters were disenfranchised, leading the counties to delay the certification of their ballot canvasses.
This Arizona election has been hotly contested, drawing skepticism nationwide. It will be quite interesting to see the outcome.
