Former President Donald Trump is out campaigning in the runup to the 2022 midterms, using his immense popularity with the GOP base and natural charisma to champion the causes of those candidates who might advance the MAGA banner if they win office.
Namely, he’s been holding rallies to support candidates like JD Vance that represent a rejection of the GOP/Conservative, Inc. Establishment and an embracing of the MAGA movement.
Another such candidate that he’s been backing and supporting is Blake Masters, the GOP candidate to run against Sen. Kelly in Arizona. Speaking in support of Masters and GOP candidates generally during a recent speech in Mesa, Arizona, former President Trump called on voters to turn out and hand the GOP a “historic victory” in November, saying:
“First we have to win a historic victory for the Republican Party this November.”
And what should the GOP do if handed such an overwhelming victory? Trump got to that next. Continuing, he went on to call for the GOP to use its power to stop the tidal wave of humanity that’s rolling across the border like Alaric’s Goths flowed into Rome, likening the illegal immigrant invasion to a military invasion. In his words:
“Job number one for Republican Congress is to stop the invasion and that’s what it is. It’s like a military invasion. In many ways, it’s worse because, with military, you can stop them with force. These people are coming through totally unencumbered. But we have to stop the invasion on our southern border,”

And with the border being a key issue about which Trump and his base care, the former president’s support of Masters makes total sense; Masters is one of the strongest GOP contenders on the border issue.
Speaking about it in a recent debate, Masters said both that there should be no illegal immigration at all and that the Democrats are the ones responsible for the massive illegal immigrant problem that America is currently facing, saying:
Call me old-fashioned but I think the correct amount of illegal immigration is zero. That’s what federal law says. The problem is, Joe Biden and Mark Kelly are willfully ignoring federal law. They’ve surrendered our southern border, they’ve given it up to the Mexican drug cartels.
We had operational control two years ago and now it’s just a disaster. They incentivize people to break the law. Illegal aliens, when they come here, they are supposed to be caught and deported back to their country or some other country that wants them. But now, Joe Biden and Mark Kelly, they laid out the welcome mat. This is the greatest country in the history of the world. If you invite everyone to come here, you’ll create a crisis.
Biden, for his part, has mouthed a number of platitudes about the border but has done little to actually defend it, something that has infuriated Republicans and led to millions of illegal immigrants crossing the border with Mexico during his time in office.
