Trump Announces Illegal Aliens “Will Not Be Counted” in the US Census, and Stephen Miller Says That Could Cost Democrats Up to 30 House Seats

Posting on Truth Social, President Donald Trump announced that he has taken action to ensure that the United States Census will no longer count illegal aliens for population purposes, a move that would significantly decrease the census population of some deep blue areas and thus cut out perhaps multiple dozens of Democratic seats in the House of Representatives.

For reference, the new Trump Administration move is similar to what has been pushed along by Congress, though Congress has tried to remove the counting of illegals only for House apportionment purposes rather than from the Census generally, and is something the president has long insisted is necessary.

Making the Truth Social post about the census on Thursday, August 7, the president began by insisting that the Department of Commerce needs to conduct a more accurate census immediately that includes realistic population figures, writing, “I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures”.

Continuing, he declared that the new cnesus he is directing the department to undertake will not include illegal aliens, writing, “importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The move is important because, as was noted by Trump aide Stephen Miller, Democrats have gained up to 30 seats in the House of Representatives through the inclusion of illegal aliens in the census. He said, “This is such a fundamental issue for our democracy. Think about this conversation we’ve been having — you’ve been covering apportionment, gerrymandering, and representation in Congress. Democrats have stolen — depending on how you count it, and no one really knows the number for sure — but just being conservative, Democrats have stolen 20 to 30 House seats by counting illegal aliens in the census.”

Continuing, Miller said, “Just think about that for a second: they stole 20 or 30 House seats by counting illegal aliens in the census. And now you have Democrats talking about, ‘Oh, Republicans can’t change their congressional maps.’ You have literally brought invaders into this country by the tens of millions to rig the results of the census and the apportionment of our congressional seats.”

Miller further alleged that this has played out in a big way in real life, saying, “On top of that, you have a situation where, even though Republicans won a landslide in the House popular vote, Democrats have so thoroughly rigged, gerrymandered, and manipulated their districts beyond all recognition that Republicans only gained a four-seat majority, despite winning a much smaller majority in the popular vote in 2010 and getting 63 seats. Remember the 2010 election? A much smaller popular vote majority produced 63 seats.”

Concluding, he insisted that the Commerce Department would ensure illegal aliens aren’t counted, saying, “But their counting of illegal aliens in the census — they have to be excluded. The Commerce Department, under the leadership of Howard Lutnick, is working on a plan now to make sure we do, in fact, exclude illegal aliens from the census.”
