In yet another infuriating statement from the radical left regarding the matter of illegal immigration and protecting Americans from the crimes wrought by those who aren’t even here legally, Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger doubled down on letting sanctuary cities release illegal aliens instead of complying with ICE detainers, leading to a severe rebuke from Stephen Miller.
As background, Mr. Miller is the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Trump Administration and is behind much of its policy regarding illegal immigration and forcing sanctuary cities to comply, having developed and promoted the tactic of doing many things all at once to overwhelm the Democrats’ lawfare and judicial apparatus.
Miller is also sometimes active on X, where he is able to bring the heat and ridicule leftists who try to get in the way of Trump Administration policies. Such is what happened when he exposed just how abominable the policy Spanberger was calling for is, as it puts dangerous criminals back out on the street where they can harm Americans.
For reference, Spanberger, who is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) official who is now running as a Democrat in Virginia’s gubernatorial race, declared that she is quite in favor of not requiring sanctuary cities to join in immigration enforcement even when ICE specifically requests aid they are legally required to provide.
That came in the context of ICE detainers, which are requests issued by ICE for local police departments to hold illegal aliens so that they can be taken into ICE custody. She said, framing that concept as forcing local cops to do ICE’s job, “I have been quite clear that I oppose any mandates that require localities to do the work of ICE officials.”
The RNC Research X account, firing back at candidate Spanberger with a vengeance in a tweet that included the clip of her making that comment about ICE detainers, said, “Abigail Spanberger DOUBLES DOWN on letting sanctuary cities release illegal aliens into our streets instead of working with ICE”.
Stephen Miller responded with a quote tweet in which he hammered Spanberger with a vengeance, noting what exactly it is that she is against and how her favored policy puts Americans at risk. He said, “This is truly repugnant. An ICE detainer asks local police to turn over criminal aliens who have been arrested by local police for a separate crime (eg assault). A Sanctuary City—which Spanberger champions—refuses to transfer custody and instead sets the criminal alien free.”

Commenters on Miller’s post largely agreed, jumping in to demand the administration take an even tougher line with sanctuary cities and the officials who rule them. One such commenter said, for example, “All Sanctuary City leaders should be arrested and charged for obstructing justice and abetting illegal alien activity.”
Another called on Miller to fight against the NGO problem, saying, “Can we go after all the NGOs and private foundations that conspire with these lunatic pols to keep these criminals on the streets? The organizations that train them to get taxpayer funded benefits or tell certain stories to remain here forever with a free lawyer.”
