A transgender illegal immigrant wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been accused of stalking and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in New York City. Nicol Suarez, a 30-year-old transgender illegal immigrant from Columbia, was arrested last week following the attack.
Reportedly, Suarez followed the minor into the bathroom of a bodega near Thomas Jefferson Park before committing the attack. The boy subsequently left the bathroom and flagged down witnesses before authorities were alerted. The next day Suarez was arrested and charged for the horrific attack.
According to reports, Suarez was already wanted by ICE in New Jersey and Massachusetts at the time of the crime where the agency had a detainer in place, which requests law enforcement to hand over the suspect if arrested. The incident has led to intense scrutiny of New York City’s sanctuary policy, in which critics argue it harbors violent criminals.
One source spoke about the detainer, noting that it could allow ICE to quickly deport Suarez if authorities cooperate. “It just goes to show that Donald Trump and [border czar] Tom Homan are correct that you need to get the violent people out of New York City and Eric Adams, Letitia James and Kathy Hochul should all cooperate because this person has an ICE detainer,” they explained.
“ICE could just pick this person up and deport them back,” the source added. However, they pointed out that New York City’s laws hinder law enforcement. “But due to our sanctuary laws, we can’t do anything,” they said. Prosecutors requested bail be set at $500,000 and a $1.5 million bond for Suarez, but Judge Elizabeth Shamahs ordered $100,000 bail and a $250,000 bond, according to court records.
“I feel really bad for the kid that has to go through this because his life will never be the same,” the source stated. “We worry about the migrants but what about the victim? This is a true victim.” Lindsaey Gonzalez, 24, said, “This rapist should be deported so he can’t do that to any other innocent young boy.”
“That boy must be traumatized a lot for the rest of his life,” Gonzales added. ‘I feel bad for him because I’m a mother.” A nearby deli owner was horrified to learn of the attack, noting that kids often frequent the area. “Oh my God, that is disgusting,” said Azid Haime, 59, the owner of 2234 East Side Deli. “He destroyed that little boy’s life!” he said. “All my body is shaking, I want to sit. I can’t explain how I feel. I’m more than angry.”
