A Canadian town completely lost its backbone and issued an apology for a Harry Potter Halloween display after it was called out by transgender rights activists, only to then receive backlash from everyone else for caving to the woke mob. Chiefs in the British Columbia town of Gibsons said they were “bringing a little Hogwarts magic” to Pioneer Park just ahead of Halloween.
However, that sentiment didn’t last long as they got down on their knees and issued a rather cringe groveling apology for their Potter display after they were reminded by transgender activists of the franchise’s creator, JK Rowling’s past comments on transgender issues. A bronze statue commemorating the town’s founder, George Gibson, was completely decked out in Gryffindor robes, along with a broom.
The statue would not have looked out of place if it had been placed in the fictional wizard academy of Hogwarts. Posters referring to the character of Harry Potter as the “Undesirable No. 1” were hung all across town, while the display also featured the Book of Spells. What appeared to be a completely innocent Halloween display caused widespread anger online, with much of the frustration aimed at Rowling and her view on transgender rights.
According to a report from The New York Post, around 200 comments were left on posts about the display, prompting the individual who runs the profile to turn off comments. “This is incredibly tone deaf for Gibsons’ trans and gender diverse residents and visitors,” an angry social media user commented about the display.
The town was also accused of not “caring about its vulnerable communities.” Officials then issued an apology to all those who “felt hurt” by the display. However, the apology has been the subject of intense and well-deserved mockery across the internet. “For heaven’s sake seriously?” one Facebook user wrote in response to the apology.
“When did everyone become so hypersensitive. It’s a Halloween display. Let’s cancel Halloween or anything remotely fun because it might hurt 3 people’s feelings,” the user continued. “My goodness sounds like an intense overreaction. Harry Potter is for kids and adults alike. Separate your politics over Rowling’s and let imagination be celebrated,” another person commented.
“Imagine being triggered by a Halloween display of a children’s book lmao,” a third said with an almost audible sneer. Critics of the apology also stated that Canada has become an “absolute joke” due to the apology. Mom of two Tracy Johannson-Uchida described the apology as “insanity,” going on to add that it was an embarrassment.

“What an embarrassment for the Town of Gibsons to feel the need to apologize over a Halloween display inspired by Harry Potter! When does this stop?!” the supporter of women and girls’ rights went on to say in her response. “Another example of adults placing the weight of their own moral judgments on the shoulders of children.”
“This is about a book. About imagination, childhood, and celebrating a beautiful, beloved story that has brought joy to millions of children around the world. Not every complaint requires an apology, and not everything needs to be interpreted through a lens of offense. Sometimes a Halloween display is just a Halloween display!” she added.
