Vice President Kamala Harris received backlash for a moment during a CNN presidential town hall event she hosted. Critics have claimed the incident is yet another example of Harris not being qualified for the presidency. Harris claimed that she might not have an answer to policy-based questions because she needs to “research it.” However, many have pointed out that the research should have already been done and Harris should have a coherent platform.
During the town hall event, Harris was asked, “What are your weaknesses, and how do you plan to overcome them?” To which she said, “I may not be quick to have the answer as soon as you ask it about a specific policy issue sometimes, because I’m going to want to research it. I’m going to want to study it. I’m kind of a nerd sometimes,” she said, breaking out into a laugh. “I confess,” she added.
Users on social media reacted to the commentary from Harris, pointing out that the incident draws into question the ability for Harris to lead the country as a presidential candidate. The vice president has already faced criticism for not having a substantial platform to run on, and her statement admitting that she might not be able to answer policy-based questions seems to corroborate this.
“I have never in my life witnessed such an incompetent and unqualified person running for the most challenging and important position in the world. How did the standards decline so significantly to “elect” a presidential candidate,” one person commented, lamenting the quality of presidential candidate the Democratic Party has put forth.
Others claimed Harris had employed a “fake it til you make it” mentality. “It’s simple the phrase is “fake it til you make it” and I do this often too – I’m not as articulate about many things as I’d like to be but when it comes to what I DO and what I should KNOW I can wittingly talk about that all day long. Plain and simple you don’t know your position your policies and that’s a concern,” they wrote.
“That’s Marxist speak for… I’m only a frontperson for Obama’s shadow government, and I have to wait for them to write my scripts, load my teleprompter and tell me what to say before I can respond,” one person said. Another user succinctly commented on Harris concerning answer during the town hall event, stating, “This is tough to watch.”
“She is a policy maker but knows nothing about policy. Now let’s try this in any other field.. I’m a doctor, but don’t ask me specifics about medicine. I’m a ballplayer but don’t ask specifics regarding the game. I’m an electrician, but don’t ask me specifics regarding electricity,” another user wrote pointing out that as a presidential candidate knowledge over policies should not be an issue.
“The questions are topics she should have already researched in the 4 years she was sitting in the copilots seat. She created the issues and now says she needs to research them????????!!!!! … is she going to say to Iran or China hold on a minute while I research this. WAKE UP PEOPLE,” another person said. “You should not need time to “research” your own damn policies! … You are running for president! You should know your policies. You should have answers at the drop of a hat. You only prove that you’re a puppet to someone’s agenda,” one person stated.
